Tonemapped with violence to pump the grain up, converted to B&W, usm to get it all going on and then a curves run to balance the whole thing out a bit bright/cont add border, resize, submit.

I really like the story this shot can tell I hope it does well and my present 'ROLL' continues

Firstly this is a great photo, one I like very much and congratulations on your ribbon. However Looking at the image I am struggling to see that much grain in it. To me (and I have looked at it on different monitors) it seems that its more the fact that it has more 'texture' rather than grain?

'tone mapped with violence'
heh, I like that. usually I dispise the look of tone-mapping, but I really enjoy your violent methods on this picture.

Yes I propose to set a counter for people voting 1 or 2 ribbon shots and send them to Siberia (without any camera) for a week after a certain number of occasions.

Moody and beautiful. The white area may be a little too bright, but otherwise near perfection. 8.

This is so Larus-y. The model is too perfect. I'm pretty sure that Larus is cultivating an army of androids. He must be stopped! Otherwise it's an interesting photo, though, and the grain works, makes it feel like a charcoal drawing. 6

Strong Bad says: Holy crap! Awesome image. I love the contrasty look and the way the lines of the dock recede into the distance before ending. The texture of the clouds is fascinating and the glowing sun makes a great silhouette and projects a subtle but effective shadow on the ground. The textures of the rough water and the dock surface, combined with the varying textures of the clouds, make an extremely visually interesting image. By silhouetting the person, there is no distracting detail there, and the monotone nature of the image eliminates the distraction of color. The grain is not overwhelming, just slightly apparent in the sky mostly, and complexity of all the textures in the image coordinate perfectly with the grain in such a way that the viewer doesn't become conscious of the grain.
