this is so cool! I had a hard time seeing the pencil.
good work, on the photo and the flower!

Nice concept, but kind of a scary looking result.
08/24/2002 10:32:00 PM
Good one!
08/24/2002 07:57:00 PM
How very clever.

I don't see the background as grey but it is a little lighter than other backgrounds. It doesn't matter anyway in my opinion because I think the lighter color blends in and enhances the out of focus details and helps to draw the eye to the pencil point. This is a great macro and very imaginative. Good luck! shortredneck

Very clever--reminds me of a radish rose--andrewm

Very interesting! I really like the golden tips on the leafs!.
08/23/2002 02:36:00 AM
one of the ugliest flowers i have seen, but nice idea, and i dont think that a pencil flower would ever look good.
08/22/2002 10:34:00 PM
great idea! I think I would have liked a little more DOF and the colors seem a bit off, but I might be wrong on that. Something other than grey as the background color might have brought the flower out even more. 7 beegee

wow someone has some steady hands.. well done, very interesting! 9
08/22/2002 05:11:00 PM
hahahaha, nicely done. This is a great idea! I like the DOF, but I personally would have liked to have seen the flower centered in the middle of the frame.
08/22/2002 04:39:00 PM
Great idea. Needs more colour.
08/22/2002 02:20:00 PM
Cool!
08/22/2002 10:25:00 AM
Great twist! I like the meatiness of the red ... almost looks like a beet.
08/21/2002 04:12:00 PM
This is great. I would have liked a lighter background and a big greater DOF.
08/21/2002 02:48:00 PM
I like the depth of field this is using, and I like the detail that is visible. Good job. karmat

Very nice and creative idea! Looks like it could be a black eyed susan. :) The angle is great and it is framed very nicely. Lighting is good. Not too bright and not too dark. Great idea and good luck in the challenge.

creative
colors are not so good
08/21/2002 03:44:00 AM
Very creative! Great idea. Could have used some real green like leaves to make it even more look like a flower?
08/21/2002 02:03:00 AM
This macro shot is wonderful and unique in this challenge.
08/21/2002 01:45:00 AM
At first glance I wasn't impressed. However, upon a closer look I see the merits and creativity of this photo. How in the world did you get this pencil to look the color of raw meat. Good DOF and lighting. Impressive and creative. =6 syamjonimi ;'-D

This is a very cool idea. I don't really like the way it looks, the fuzziness off in the distance never really pleases my eyes, but the whole is too good to pass up. Let's say 9, Swash
08/20/2002 05:54:00 PM
How cool. Think it would be better in portrait orientation.

08/20/2002 02:29:00 PM
very clever, great idea. I only wish all of it could have been in focus
08/20/2002 08:09:00 AM
Now, that's what I call real handicraft. Very good picture and I like very much what you made out of this pencil.
08/20/2002 06:33:00 AM
Now that's MACRO! :)
08/19/2002 11:16:00 PM
Is it me or does that look a little like a puppy face?
08/19/2002 10:14:00 PM
One of the most original photos. Good job!
08/19/2002 08:57:00 PM
oh it looks like a teddy bear's face with a soft nubby nose :) good macro.
08/19/2002 05:32:00 PM
This one must have been difficult to shoot. Great job getting just the right angle.
08/19/2002 05:30:00 PM
never would have thought of that. nice shot.
08/19/2002 04:00:00 PM
unique idea.
08/19/2002 01:54:00 PM
impressive.
08/19/2002 01:36:00 PM
Neet idea, something is just not right though. Maybe th is the black background that isn't all the way black or the composition or both.
08/19/2002 01:34:00 PM
I like this idea. Would have like to see it from a different angle.
08/19/2002 12:39:00 PM
looks like a puppy. focus doesn't work for mer, nor does the placement of the image, where is the enter of interest? the nose or the tongue? background color is blah
08/19/2002 09:22:00 AM
unique perspective
08/19/2002 05:05:00 AM
Most creative shot in this challenge so far!

UPDATED COMMENT:
In reviewing my scores, I found this photo fit in better with those I scored a seven than the ones I scored a six. I have adjusted your score accordingly. I wonder whether the softness in the background is intentional -- it adds to the soft, flowery feel of the photo. Still, it leaved me wondering what it would look like with wider depth of field. Perhaps youll post outtakes...? Also, I really should comment on your originality. Quite clever. 7

ORIGINAL COMMENT
wow, an artist on multiple fronts... 6

Very nice idea. A deeper DOF might have done this photo a little better, but I still like it. 6 -lennier
