That picture is astounding. Talk about capturing a moment in time!!!

Superb. I like the brown/sepia tone effect very much.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Oh wow! I just clicked on the button to do a CC crit, and this shot popped up!

Your flash use was obviously very effective here. It really put highlights in the shot where there wouldn't have been any otherwise. Your idea is great, definitely fits the challenge, and your composition is well chosen - I like the horizontal centering, and vertically, it seems both the droplet and the spike head are on thirds lines. Of course, the focus is tack-sharp, as it needs to be for an effective water macro.

I guess the reflection in your water droplet are the faucet and handles of the sink, right? I guess the only thing that I would have done differently is the toning - I wonder what it would have looked like with a slight blue toning added to it, instead of the greenish-brown it has here? Anyway, congratulations on a great shot!

11/24/2003 05:15:34 AM
Congrats Yanik, the old fashioned kind of sepia toning does this pic wonders.

Wow! What a gorgeous reflection in that droplet! I like the shallow DOF - really highlights the sharpness of the front of the spike and the droplet. Great detail, lighting. 10

I like this one a lot, the clear texture of the nail and bright reflection of the drop of water. well done

cool shot and neat idea...don't see the greatest connection with a drink but very close. really nice macro.
11/21/2003 06:27:12 PM
How did you do that? You need to put this picture in the tutorial.
The detail behind the drop of water and the way you caught the reflection is totally amazing!

Beautiful shot - great original take on the contest. Your b/w tones are just perfect, as is the focus. Your effort was well worth it. 9

This is a great shot, but it's showing the opposite of the saying. Maybe if I could see a glass rim in the shot it would have been scored higher. 7
I like the color, lighting and clarity of the water drop.

Truly Amazing! Nothing else can be said.

I really like this shot. Well done!

This looks more like you're splashing a spike. Good capture of the drop though. It creates a very interesting photo.

While this technically accomplished photo may provide considerable delight for those with a particular interest, both the emotional appeal and sensory range may be considered too limited for the generalist. The central composition, IMHO, contributes staticity.

Haunting stuff. I really like the DOF field the way it is, hope you don't get knocked for it too hard.
11/17/2003 08:37:38 PM
This is a good photo, and a good literalism. I think the spile could be a little more "instantly" recognizable if you included more of the context. I think the contrast and tones of the photo are compelling, but the centric design is less-so.

This is my fav of the challenge. b&w works well, good focus - 8

Pretty shot....I mean it's just beautifully done. WOW you did this so well. I can't add anything constructive....it's just perfect. LOVE it.
11/17/2003 10:34:36 AM
amazing macro shot.
11/17/2003 10:23:40 AM
Nice composition! How many shots you've done before you got this one? :D
Well done!
11/17/2003 10:10:57 AM
This is a truly amazing shot. Excellent tie in with the literalisim you've chosen as well. The Sepia tone works perfectly, in my opinion, because color would add another dimension to this image...and it doesn't need that. All color would do is draw away from the amazing subject. I feel the depth of field is perfect for this image and the clarity is awesome.

This is a great shot and deserves a ribbon, no question.

Cool picture, but I guess I don't get it. I don't see the "drink" part of your literal title. I just see a drop of water and a nail (which if large enough, is also called a spike). I like the concept of "spiking a drink", but I probably would have put a "spike" in a martini glass and photographed that...

woooowww... excelllllllllent :) you win.. i don't even need to see the others. i can't vote, but i'd give you a 15 if i could. i don't even need the nail to be there.. the water droplet is great ;) if you split this photograph into two, i'd give the water droplet alone a 10.. and the nail would probably get around 5-6 ;)
11/17/2003 03:12:24 AM
GREAT colors! I love the look in this photo
11/17/2003 01:51:47 AM
This photo certainly has the wow factor! Excellent light, capture, everything. Has to be a serious ribbon contender.
