This staircase winds around a large silo at a hydrogen/air products plant. With cropping allowed you can make it so the stairs enter the frame in one corner and exit another, which is near impossible framing with only the camera. There are a number of other limitations such as the top of the silo, which has all kinds of industrial rails and pipes, a tree that extends up the side and often enters the bottom of the frame, sky to the right of the silo, and so on.

Shot --> transfered to PC --> opened in CS3 --> Sharpening applied (as allowed under ME rules) --> resized to 640px tall --> 2nd dose of Sharpening (as allowed under ME rules) --> Save As.

**** POST CHALLENGE ****

Wow! I can't believe it ... really! I was just hoping for a Top 10 or Top 20 finish, so to ribbon is truly a surprise.

Thanks for all the great comments.

BTW, here's a wide angle snapshot of the silo (taken last year) just to give a better idea of what this isolated view is from: click

That is an amazing shot. Looks unreal, a staircase to no where!

Hi Rob. Red! Not bad for only 6 challenges entered. I have no doubt it's the first of many ribbons for you. Well done!

I love the shot. I drive by one of these everyday on my way to work..... I'm kicking myself for never stopping to take a shot. Someday I will, but now I probably won't be able to enter it in a challenge. :-) I thought a shot like this would have also done well in Lines, Curves, Stairs, or possibly Diagonals. Congrats on the Ribbon!

I did not vote on this challenge but as I scanned the images, yours stood out as being very unique from the bunch. I love this. There is a bit of surrealism in this image. I give you a post 10 and congrats on your ribbon, you can now cross that off of a goal. Way to go. Your on a very good start with just 6 entries.

Great shot and great idea. It looks like a staircase going from nowhere to nowhere (I see the silo, now you've mentioned it). Huge congrats on the red.

curve of the water tower (?) is suggested by the shadows - enhanced by the staircase and lights -- dramatic and unusual --- one of my ribbon picks

Very nice, the ladder looks quite surreal, the space in the frame is used wisely, and the texture of the background (a big tank?) is well visible. 9
