This is one of the images I come back to repeatedly, both because it captures a classic style so well and because it is so very well done. This time, I just noticed your notation that posted comments help when you feel down. We all need a boost once in a while, particularly when life or art feel difficult. A thread on the forum says this image was selected for exhibition in Denver, and it looks like that show is in progress right now. I hope that being shown brings you some well-deserved happiness, maybe to help balance the down times. Keep up the great work.

Absolutely great; your eyes burn through the viewer- as if you are willingly caught and are false-chastising the voyeur-
The light, the crispness of the face and flowing of the headdress are also exquisite.

I'm sure you are used to many compliments on your work, especially your self portraits; so for lack of a way to separate this out from all the others... nice work.

A classic image! Great lines, terrific light. The catch of red. The only thing is it is more or less a reproduction of a style. A very, very good reproduction but I think it takes a bit away from the image. I do like your take on the subject. Strictly on the merit on the technical side it is near perfect. A terrific shot.

I showed this to my husband, and he immediately, without hesitation, said "Vermeer". Looks like you did achieve your goal. Although I don't really know what your goal was.

But you achieved a good high score, and a really good ranking for a challenge with over 700 entries of people's best work. Congratulations!!!

Congratulations, my dear, on a superb photograph. Excellent score and placement in a Best of 2006 against all that competition, but mostly look at the score given by commenters - your work is inspired AND inspiring. I'm so glad this was justly rewarded.

Congrats on your new personal best! Nice to see someone actually doing that with this challenge. :) And wow, what a high placement! And then look at that favorites count and how many comments and how highly THEY rated this! Just a fantastic result all around.

This shot is just masterful; the framing, light, your pose ... plus, I had to lean in close to tell it wasn't a painting!

Your artistry is simply stunning, Svetlana. You really owe DPC a tutorial on how you got the painting effect.

I'm quite glad to see this photo back on the site (I tried to show it off to my girlfriend, at by that point it was gone), and I hope that you get all the aclaim you deserve. This is a captivating shot, and the painterly effect is beautifully applied. I look forward to checking your profile for more captivating shots in the coming year. Oh, I and I have to thank Posthumous for mentioning you on his profile page - otherwise I might have missed this shot.

Very nice composition. Very painterly quality, yet clearly photographic in nature. I particularly like the the way the background colors echo the theme found in the subject.

I like this better than the original painting with flipping the composition on the other side and adding more elements to it. Darker background is preferred but this works too. I hope this will do great int his challenge.

Interesting, trying to get a paintinglike effect here I guess? I quite like those ideas, altough the effect here has resulted in some blur softness that I do not see in paintings. There is a light halo around some parts of the arm and head scarf, looks a bit sloppy.
I also think that this could benefit from a more darkened background, because the tones fo grey in fore and background are too close now.
I like the composition, the pose, the light and the facial expression. 7

In this kind of "historical" shot , every detail counts , so I think that you should have taken a less modern book and 5 minutes to iron a bit the visible sleeve.
The face is beautiful , this is the best part of this study.
