Challenge: Black and White Portrait II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5- 5.6G ED DX
Location: Como Zoo
Date: Jan 6, 2007
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/10s
Galleries: Portraiture, Animals
Date Uploaded: Jan 7, 2007

-converted to B&W
-dodged and burned the eyes, mouth and left side of the face
-adjusted brightness/contrast
-sharpened
-cropped because of the harsh white light above the ear and the body (not sure if thats a good idea)

Hesitant to enter because a subject blurred by real motion might not be embraced here for portraits plus I really suck at PP. :(

looks like it is over photo edited... nothing special...

bold and beautiful. 8

I think the cross-hatching filter/texture is fighting with the fur rather than enhancing the shot. The hair has a very defined directional texture and maybe a crosshatch would work better on a less detailed subject like smooth skin?

there is a strange look to this which I dont quite understand, it is not just out of focus but has a blurr caused by movement, would have been great if you had caputred it still, good luck
01/11/2007 05:21:47 PM
Would have liked it to be more in focus.

Liked this right away for the effective use of filter(s). Adds to the already strong mystique of this cougar by emphasizing the facial markings. 10!

Looks like a painting but too soft for me. Harsh light on the top left.

I'm not a fan of this kind of edits, sorry.

I'm afraid the effect doesn't work for me at all. I would rather ahve seen it as a straight shot.
01/11/2007 11:56:39 AM
that is some dramatic processing on the cougar
01/11/2007 10:11:55 AM
BLurry and looks like some form of filter was used for an effect not sure what you were going for.
01/11/2007 07:02:22 AM
I personally do not like the effect (i am assuming this is a ps effect) that has been placed on the picture.
01/11/2007 03:18:47 AM
Sorry but it does not work.

I'd love to see the original image, but this has to much PP

DNMC for me...a portrait? a pictorial representation of a person usually showing the face
01/10/2007 02:08:33 PM
Blurry and somewhat excessive on the processing.
01/10/2007 01:23:24 PM
totally blurry - I think cropped too tight so you exceeded resolution - 1
01/10/2007 01:22:25 PM
The post processing here is too much. I'd give you a 5 or 6 for the subject if it weren't processed badly.

looks like a picture of a painting... unless it's been heavily edited, but then why would you heavily edit something like that? i'd want to keep it lifelike..
