"Come, gentle Spring! ethereal mildness, come."
-- James Thomson, Spring in The Seasons (1728)

Probably Ranunculus ficaria (Lesser Celandine), a member of the Buttercup family, but when you don't get your subject in focus it gets a bit tricky to tell!

The shot was indeed taken out of focus, with an old manual focus Tamron lens which is as sharp as L glass when used properly, but has the dreamiest bokeh I have ever seen, making shots like this a joy to produce.

This image could win the impressionism challenge - Really nice work here - gave it a 6 during voting but clearly undervoted on it (to used to sharp and contrasty images of DPC).

I am glad a came across this shot... I think it is awesome. You are righ to be proud by it as well, as it is very deserving of that. This has actually inspired me and given me some ideas for some shots as well- THANKS!

675th place is a massive achievement.
It also takes a certain something to enter a shot like this. Re: the certain something, and as you like bike racing, I can tell you that I spoke to some stranger once while watching a friend of mine try his hand at somebody-or-other's school of racing at Brands Hatch. Said stranger said he'd also tried it once and when I asked him why he hadn't kept it up he said: "I haven't got the arsehole for it." So well done. I think I'll make it a favourite just so as you have to change your profile page again.

Wonderful shot, unfair score. One of my 10's anyway!

WOW - you got screwed by the voters! I personally like this. I get what you were trying to do and I think you got exactly what you wanted. Congrats on that. It's too bad that people can't see past the normal technicals of photography and see the art/intention of the photog. What is even more ridiculous is that the only techniacal issue would be focus and it is more than obvious this was done on purpose.

Somtimes I just don't get DPC voters!

Great work.

Yes, I think you were so robbed. . . .

Such is life, though. Still a very nice shot. Would look awesome blown up really really big, printed and hanging on a wall in a modern apartment building or something.

I loved the colors & abstract form, finding them compelling & evocative...

This was a bold entry - it barks out confidence in one's ability as an artist!

I really like the simplicity of this. Nicely done.

I like the idea but I think there is a little too much detail lost.

A pretty OOF effect. However, there is too much empty space in the right half of the frame, and, IMO, you oversaturated the colours. 5

as much as i love this, i'm afraid it is far too subtle. maybe if it had just a hint more detail.

Very different...I like it. Cool shot. 7

The soft focus does not work for me.

I love it! Composition is great - it is an abstract image but there is definitely a subject. The yellow is not just some "blob" but is made more substantial by the lines of green around the bottom and out of the bottom. It immediately says "flower" - in an understated way. The colors compliment each other perfectly.. and I like the ... I don't know how to put it but it seems that if I were to take this photo and adjust levels in Photoshop, I wouldn't be able to get anything more to my liking. Border is subtle yet definitely "there", acting as a way to hold in all the flowing color. Very very good image in my opinion.

I think a daring shot like this needs a more daring composition. but I'll give it a 7

Fabulous impressionistic piece. I hope the voters are being kind--this kind of work doesn't fare well on DPC.

I wish this did more for me, the colors and composition are fine, but the lack of any point of focus does not work for me.

you might get hammered by low votes for this "blur" photo, but i do understand your intention.

01/17/2007 04:43:45 PM
Normally I would be anoyed by a lack of focus, but it is clearly intentional like an impressionistic abatract. Nice.

I'm not sure if the majority of peoples on DPC will go with it, but I personally love it. 7

I really like this concept--I just wish there was a small bit of the flower that was sharp. I like soft images.

Not etheral, just fuzzy.
01/13/2007 10:04:16 AM
Wonderful colours but for me the effect here is just too much, I would like to see just a little more detail/focus (just my humble opinion)

01/13/2007 09:08:04 AM
Can't really figure out what this is? A flower?

01/12/2007 06:43:06 PM
A soft focus filter provides a somewhat more appealing way to accomplish this effect.

01/12/2007 06:12:18 PM
I like the intent but I think it would be better to have the flower in focus and the rest not... kinda looks a bit "blobby"

umm, well ... interesting concept but still no visual appeal to me, sorry
