Challenge: Black and White Portrait II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5- 5.6G ED DX
Location: Embassy Muscat, Oman
Date: Jan 5, 2007
Date Uploaded: Jan 7, 2007

This Omani woman displays the stereotypical feelings associated with the Middle Eastern culture towards women. Note: Oman is a very pro-female country, with women holding parliamentary positions - the first country in this region to do so; hence, this display is purely for artistic purposes.

This should of scored a 7 if she was revealed a little more, great use of lighting!

I think that _eug made a good point about the "[lasric" feel, but it was one of the things that really made this photo for me. The fact that Oman is comparatively pro-women (compared to many other Islamic countries) made this even more interesting of a shot. I was shocked, to be honest, that this came in as low as it did, with averages under 6. This was my #1 shot of this challenge. Just goes to show that we all have different tastes, and hooray for that! :-)

Great job, Chris. Sorry I didn't vote in this one. I've been too busy. But It's a fantastic shot. Hell of a performance for your first entry! I don't get the 4 1s and 4 2s. What the hell is wrong with people. It was probably someone I ticked off who saw the word Omani and thought it was by me! Love it! Don't know if I'd call Oman a very pro-woman country, though.

The one eye showing and the black on black are intriguing. Can't make up my mind what I think about the hand.

Wow - great tone, detail and texture. Great composition and balance. Only thing I would change is the hand... I like the henna design, bu somehow the way the hand is clenched seems odd... can't put my finger on why. Great job!

Very nice. I would prefer to see a little bit more of the face and less of the hand. Good photo though.

the sleeve is a bit too glaring relative to the rest, otherwise perfect.

Too gaurded. Lemme see both eyes.

The way you processed the skin and eye creeps me out to be blunt. The skin of the face looks like plastic and the eye almost glows. No offense.

My attention goes to the sleeve instead of to her eye, which is where it should go. Otherwise, beautiful image
