Challenge: Black and White Portrait II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S5200Z
Location: Cleveland, OH
Date: Jan 6, 2007
Aperture: 3.2
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Portraiture, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jan 6, 2007

I had an instinct idea that had a closing elevator, but it ended up being a little too focused on the elevator to be a portrait. Rotate, Crop, Conv to b&W, Duotone (quad pantone), contrast levels, brightness levels, and then exposure.

very good! I love the grainy/edgy look to it, but it also has a softness and almost sadness to it. Great job.

I like the vintage feel of this image with the slight grain. The composition is good. I like profiles as well. Probably just got lost in the shuffle with so many entries, although 87 isn't that bad, considering!!

I thought this was one of the best in the challenge and gave it an eight. Keep up the good work.

I like the grain in this...gives a classic '70's look to the composition. Nice breathing space around the character too. 7

I really like this shot. The graininess and the slight sepia tones add to the add to the feeling of loneliness. Good lighting on the model. There's one object at the top of the head that I would clone out. Terrific work!

Perhaps a bit of a cliche, but I really like your handling of this classic "pensive and looking out the window" shot. The grain works for me, and the positioning and depth of field are really marvelous. I like how the depth of field shows us outside so clearly--and yet there's really nothing amazing to see, so it's a wonderful red herring that adds interest and meaning to the shot. 8

I like the transiton from the light blown to the dark, as well as the granularity.
Tue composition is also intriguing... is he looking at something or just thinking?

I like the grainy, high contrast feel. Combined with the buildings and clothes, this has the look of something from the 60s or 70s ... and the expression fits the mood of those times.

Ohhh I like the mood in this! The grain adds to this, very nice! Good composition. Not sure if the focus is supposed to be on the person or the buildings though...seems they buildings are more in focus.

I'm going to show my prejudice, but I like this kind of shot the best. It's not sterile, it has emotion and it's not gimmicky. Nice choice of background and the subject seems natural not posed. Here's your '10', I hope others see the same things I did. Congrats!
