I have several shots of this newly-formed ice which are nicer pictures, but don't connect as directly to the "newness" factor -- I plan to post those outtakes next week.

is that ice in a pan?

Im afraid I dont undertstand your concept for this one. It sure looks like a thin piece of ice. But Im not clear on what it's about.

the lighting here is really harsh, and you subject isn't really very interesting. i'm not sure i really get the connection to the challenge, either, but i don't take points off for that. you might want to crop off the top corners where your pan ends, and try to get more natural lighting instead of bouncing the harsh flash off the metal surface.

interesting subject, though a bit confusing.

This is a little bright at the top. Maybe you could have tried to reduce the light a bit by placing something between the light source and the subject. I have heard that a thin cloth or a thin paper placed between the light and the subject helps to reduce glare and help from getting a too bright look. You did a good job of taking the photo so that we can tell exactly what it is. Even without the title, I still think we would be able to know what it is. Good luck with the challenge.

Too close, it is hrad to tell what we are looking at

good idea, but maybe you could have positioned a light source to capture light reflections off the ice to make it more attractive? The grey's kinda dull here..

glare, subject not clear

Ok, I see...new ice is usually thin...There's a connection to the challenge...but it's very hard to tell that is ice in the picture...Actually it looks a lot like wax. And, the bright spot right above it is a bit distracting. An original idea however...

I like the concept, but your lighting is a little harsh.

If it weren't for the title, I never would have known what this was a photo of.

is the glare from the flash?
there are ways of removing that. also i don't think i understand why its new
08/13/2002 01:37:00 AM
What... I don't get the "new" in this.... sorry

You capture a great deal of detail in this picture. That unfortunately, does not lend itself to a point of reference. Without the title, I was unable to determine what I was looking at. Even with the title, I don't know what my eye is supposed to be drawn to. Another angle may also have helped you eliminate the glare. I hope this feedback is helpful. Please forgive me if I hurt you. Please continue shooting.

I'm sorry, but I understand this neither in terms of the challenge nor more generally. I just don't get it. 2 Jak

what is the size/location? not clear what/where
08/12/2002 03:07:00 AM
I'm not getting what's new about this but that's probably me. I see a few nice things happening here but all in all this does not grab me.
