Thank you for all the nice comments. I really liked the way the lighting worked for me on this shot. (It was in the evening, but I thought morning harvest would make it 'newer' :>)

I would love to have this photo hanging in my kitchen or dining room. I love it. Good job Puppet 10!

Nice lighting

Beautiful photo! I love the light in the background. The vegetables make a good subject. Creative interpretation of "something new".

Wonderful composition. It really hard to get lighting just right most times. The lighting in your pic is pefect. I love the haze it creates. Your pic stirs up those times when I lived in the country. It creates lots of "warm fuzzies." I give you a 10.

my 10 for the week!
08/17/2002 12:08:00 PM
This is one of my favorite photos that I have seen yet this week. With that sun and everything in the background it looks fantastic. (9)

Nice composition, excelent lighting. Has a nice feel to it. Well done, 10 md

Nice setup. The corn on the left is a tad dark, but still a nice presentation. I esp. like the sun on the window, at first I thought it was early morning fog, but it still looks good to me. 9 Swash

I liked your use of lighting and color. The background is excellent
08/16/2002 11:07:00 AM
that's a very nice arrangements, the sunshine is superb, and the green of the window frame rounds everything off nicely. your corn to the left and some of the tomatoes are a little dark, but that doesn't distract much from the photo because it does give it that early morning feel. -- gr8photos (8)

Meets challenge:good
Technical aspects: could be a little lighter to show more detail of the produce
Artistic Merit:ok
Suggestions:perhaps a different arrangement to allow more light on the subject. Remove the paper from the basket...it adds no virtue.
08/16/2002 12:14:00 AM
it would have helped to have a light closer to the fruit inside the room... the corn is dark on the left

A still life study of vegetables... a creative thought no one else had. While I don't usually enjoy still life photos, I do like this one. I love the use of <morning?> light coming in the windoes in the background. would it have been possible to lighten the vegetable backet to give more clarity, without making the background too light? I imagine you probably tried many different takes and submitted the one you liked best. I've found that what I think is best, is often different than someone else's opinion.

Great light!!!! Wonderful light!!!! Love it. Kee

This is a very nice shot. The sun shining in looks great. On first glance I thought the green vegetable on the left was an umbrella! It seems a little too long and puts an otherwise beautiful shot a little off balance.
08/15/2002 12:11:00 PM
This is a great idea! I love how it was done. Maybe the vegetables could have a bit more lighting, but don't know how you could have done that to make it still look good with that background lighting. The title is Morning Harvest. To me, that reminds me of the vegetables just coming in from outside. Being picked first thing in the morning. That image also produces little droplets of dew. Could a spray bottle be used to produce that kind of slightly damp image I wonder? Another thing that could have added to this already wonderful shot would be to have a longer stem coming off one of the tomatoes or to have the large tomato on the top turned slightly so the stem showed. Great job with this one! Good luck in the challenge.

This is a superbly atmospheric shot. The use of the morning rays cutting through the mist outside the window is great. DOF is spot on; the soft focus background and crispness of the foreground subject hold the attention while, at the same time, being pleasing on the eye. The balance of high and low contrast is spot on, it looks early, it looks real and it hasn't got a 'Set up' feel… Great shot – worthy 10… Good luck…
08/15/2002 11:39:00 AM
Very cool, but the subject (as per the title) is mostly in shadow, so the eye is drawn to the brightest spot, the light outside rather than the veges. Nonetheless, I think the lighting is interesting, just not for the purposes of getting your audience to examine the contents of the basket.

nice lighting

I love the capture of the morning sun here. You can almost feel the light!
08/14/2002 01:42:00 PM
This is a really nice composition. Even though I can tell that it is sharp and in focus it still has a soft feel to it because of the dimly lit foreground, blurred background and sunlit haze, which I like. I am wondering how it may look with a little more light from the right side to further illuminate the food and bring out a little more color to help balance out the greens. Overall, very well done.

nicely done

Should be an advertisement for something. Glorious lighting, nice arrangment in the basket. I kinda wish the light could've picked up a bit more detail on the corn, but all in al, it's great.

This is why we spend so much time working in the garden. You get the water boiling, I'll slice the 'maters. Good picture.

I like this one. Probably the most well done in the bunch. New vegies, new morning---the light in the window is wonderful. Can't find anything to criticize.

I think the sunlight through the windows is fantastic - really makes me think of autumn and the changing seasons. The basket says new harvest to me very much - put it this way, harvest popped into my head as soon as I saw it, and I didn't even think to look at the title, till just now writing this comment. But the shadows on the veg are too strong and the corn/ marrow thing is just tooo dark. I would score 7 for the same photo with better lighting on the veg.

Good light.

beautiful still life..the sharpness of the basket of food and the diffused light rays coming through make this a real winner for me.
08/13/2002 12:22:00 AM
Nice still life. The corn is a bit dark, but I like it!

That's a beautiful shot and I would give it a 10 in another challenge. Not sure how it fits with "something new" though.
08/12/2002 11:04:00 AM
I like this shot and compliement the photographer. Beautiful colors, and I like the obviously new sunlight and the title. I also appreciate it more because it is NOT a photo of a baby, flower bud, sunrise, puppy, etc. Good work.
08/12/2002 04:04:00 AM
i was originally thinking something along these lines for my photo, but I gave up because I couldn't get the effect I wanted. I think you've taken this shot VERY well indeed. I love the rays of light coming in through the windows. 10
08/12/2002 03:28:00 AM
I like how the light is coming in through the window onto the veggies. Those must have been yummy to eat.
08/12/2002 03:16:00 AM
I like this a lot. It has a wonderful atmosphere and I LOVE that light outside of the window. It really conveys the early morning. Nice composition. Only negative for me is that at the front of the image there is the dark shadow of the basket and the light on the harvest isn't ideal either because you were focusing the light on the outdoors.
08/12/2002 03:00:00 AM
Could be a little bit brighter. 6.
