Challenge: Fireworks II (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC for Canon
Date: Dec 31, 2006
Date Uploaded: Dec 31, 2006

Woke up Sunday morning to see a speed challenge. Laughed out loud considering that if I entered it I would have 5 images being voted on a the same time once this goes up. And being the DPC addict I am I had no other choice.

I had no intentions of going anywhere near downtown tonight and I plan on being asleep well before the fireworks went off anyways. We have a small stash of sparklers leftover from 4th of July and I wanted to play with my new Sigma lens and its macro setting. I set the sparkler up on a table sticking out of some clay, a desk lamp shining on the right front side and Aimee holding black velvet behind it. Lit the sparkler and shot away. This one had the most sparkle to it.

Looking back at the last challenge there were not many sparkler entries - and the ones that had been entered did not do so well. Hopefully my edit and presentation on this one will garner a better result. Personally I like this better than my last fireworks entry.

PP - RAW conversion, various layers with hue adjustments and then erasing each spark for the color I wanted (just like my pet portrait and portrait in landscape leaf edits), slective color adjustment to get the colors how I liked, hihg pass sharpen, USM, NI, resize for web and border.

Fireworks are nice but having seen so many of them I really need something else in the frame to make it work for me, foreground or backround... 5

Very nice light control and really purty colors.

You've brough out some intriguing colours here. And well framed, too; I like the use of space on the left.

I would have been tempted to try framing the combustion point on the sparkler a little lower - the stem of the sparkler looks a bit incongruous. Not sure if doing so would have made it any better though, I'd have to try and see.

I don't like the title with the crazy capitalisation. The image is nice though.

I like this shot, the colors and the composition are wonderful. There seem to be a lot of "sparkler" shots but this one really stands out. Great job!!!

nice colors and sparkles, too off-centered though
