Thought of honeycomb when I saw the challenge announced. A good slushy squeeze is what I had in mind.

Basically duplicated the layer, desaturated and colour balanced to add the slight sepia colour. Masked off the honey. Then minir touch ups with dodge and burn. A bit of blur on the arm to get rid of some of my hair :-)

Some noise reduction and USM, resize and border.

Hoping this will get over 6.4...but who knows.

POST: well, I thought 6.4 but no one else did! Funny how you think some shots will do well and then you watch some of the scores that come in and you wonder...

oh well, I liked it

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: Great focus and terrific post-processing. The arm looks a little discolored and blurry, providing a mild distraction that attracts the eye.

Lighting: All of your elements are very nicely and evenly lit.

Composition/Content: Terrific composition. The angle of the arm provides a great line to lead the eye up and into the image, and up to the subject of the image. I don't personally like the uneven, black framing. It looks more accidental than designed, but I rarely hold points for borders. I would not have held points for this one, but it really didn't add to the quality either.

My Opinion: Looking through the challenge results, this one is far better than MANY that finished ahead of it. I think that the odd tone on the skin may have contributed to the lower than expected score, but who am I to think I have voters figured out?

Eeeeew very sticky! Good idea and a nice shot - sorry you didn't get the 6.4. You just never know around here...as soon as I think I have high 6 shot, I'll wake up to a 5.0. Luckily it works both ways and sometimes there is a surprise high score! Merry Christmas!!

Very clever and well done! It should have scored over 6.4. This is such an unpredictable bunch, isn't it ?

So, how many times did you do that before you were done? Color's a little too orange for the honey.
