Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Sky (Expert Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Canon
Location: Toronto
Date: Dec 12, 2006
Aperture: 10
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200
Galleries: Cityscape, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Dec 12, 2006

An HDR from three RAW exposures. I sat my camera facing straight up on a park bench and shot three, bracketed shots. I converted the three RAW files to exposures ranging from -4 to +4 in steps of one (9 of them). Then combined the 9 exposures in Photomatics and tone mapped. Then into Photoshop for levels, curves, and hue.

I didn't use any selection tools at all, so the editing was pretty basic, actually.

I like the "spokes" of sky, meeting at the central "hub", and the way the blue and gold complement each other. :-)

Thanks, that's above & beyond the call of voting-duty! Actually, I wanted to title this "Scraping the Sky", but thought it might be lame to have the challenge subject in my title.

very well executed effect. The composition is cliche, but this is still a good example of it. 7

Tremendous composition. Great "sky" I guess (hard to tell under the "Expert" rules!!! But as I said, tremendous. Should have a very strong showing.

Excellent approach to the challenge and pulled off very well with lots of drama. The highlites around the buildings set them off well but conflict a bit with the sky values. A more gradual transition, for me at least would have been better. :)

This is very powerful, but for me it is marred by the extreme haloing. Great composition, great light on the bldgs.

Nice image, and one that certainly struck my eye on a first glance over the entries, but I would have prefered it without the whiteness around each of the buildings.

This is maybe a bit to much, but I like the results, I love the buildings, but I think the halo around them is a bit too strong.

The contrast of the buildings with the straight lines and the swirling nature of the sky is great. I take it done a little for the halo around the buildings

Simply the best. This one is surely the winner. I wonder if a little more of warm yellow lights would have made this even better. Anyway, this is a sure 10 from me:)
