the lighting setup on this is pretty stupid. I really have no idea what I am doing and I expect there might be voters who recognize that. 1 fish-tank light -- that's the blue cast to the background - behind a frosted glass plate used in about 20% of my challenges. 1 flexible desk lamp, 1 Ikea flourescent desk lamp and my wife's vanity mirror/light. A piece of cardboard and a piece of foamboard make the base (with a hole). It's my hand and I used the remote to trigger the shutter (not easy and it wasn't as great as I had imagined but I wasted too much time already). I did, however, use a title that i like for once.

Wow Tate! This is deep! Another superb image from your creative brain. I love this and think it should have ribboned. Congratulations in the top 5!

Awesome photo! Executed to perfection. . .and I think the lighting is great. See? If you'd have said you did it in your professional home studio, no one would ever know with a 6.8 score and a 4th place finish :)

Tate. You do yourself proud, and the Team as well. I voted this high, and wondered how on earth it was done. Super, and a very, very nice finish.

This is a really cool picture. I wanted to do something with a hand like this, but this is much, much better than what I even had in my mind.

great concept and title, things do grow from the earth's-dirt. more emphasis on oodles of Brown-dirt, but I like the sharpness and composition. -

DPC Dirt. nice clean hand, nice clean background. a bit of zen. I actually like this one out of the "clean" shots, but I'm saving my highest scores for true grime. 7

Hmmmm. This is a funny picture. Such a clean hand coming out of the dirt, and the water is not running off the leaf. Very curious. ~7

I like this shot, the only problem I see is the back of the thumb is a little too dark. If it had been an inch or so back further it would have evened the shadow out more.
