I'm sure you heard this a 100 times: the shot doesn't seem to match the challenge. There is no white background. The shot is VERY noisy too. Try to use tools like NeatImage (www.neatimage.com) for noise reduction.

really needed to have a white background

I am not sure of the light on white. Supposed to be a white background?
11/29/2006 07:49:21 PM
Very noisy. I get the idea (a light on a white snowflake) but it just seems to need more clarity.

light on white? sorry...but this is incredibly too dark for this challenge.

I like the B&W and grain. Somehow I just find this compelling to look at, but I can't explain why. Hopefully you're not getting slammed for a literal interpretation of the challenge description.

Um, your background is black...
11/28/2006 07:47:25 AM
DNMC, white on black, if you had cropped just to the light on the snowflacke it might have worked better

over processed? too grainy and not quite light ON WHITE

Thank You for the funny "tongue-in-cheek" approach! I feel for ya! Digital is tough to learn, tough to project competence, tough to post-process, and "murder" on tongues...(I have tasted sooooooo much blood trying to become a decent digital photographer!!!!)

It's similar to the comments I used to get in high school about my stand-up comedy routines, "Haselton, 10,000 comedians out of work!...And you're trying to be funny!?!" Anybody who has read one of my "funny" comments or seen one of my "funny" challenge entries will confirm. I'm a bit THICK! I can't quit! This challenge is a prime example of that! See if you can pick me out of the line-up!

Finally, when I came to DPC last Christmas I was so smug, "I am a GOOD photographer! Y'all don't clap! Just throw 10s & 20s!" WOW!!!!!!! What a rude awakening! I have been reduced the the T-Ball League! Now my thoughts are [i]"Geppeto (alanfreed), I want to be a real boy (photographer!)" "Whenna you prove-a yousef worthy, thenna you be one!" "Thank you, O Great One! Until then I'll just keep 'whittlin' on my pixels... What's that, Roy? Somethin' about whittlin' pixels & grinnin'?" (Eeps, sorry! That's another show...Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee, Haw!!!!!!!)

This shot is poorly lit, very grainy ... sorry

IMO this doesn't really meet the challenge. Looks like white on black, not light on white. Interesting concept though.
11/27/2006 02:27:12 PM
this seems like the anti light on white -

Very dark image. The appeal of the fake snowflake is lost in the (lack of) lighting.
11/27/2006 09:39:51 AM
really cool photo ... not sure that it meets the challenge though ... where's the white BG?
11/27/2006 07:45:54 AM
You obviosly only read the title of the challenge, and not the instructions. Disregarding that the photo doesn't meet the challenge criteria, I think you needed a bit more work. The snowflake isn't readily recognisable as such - perhaps a little more detail would have helped.

Cool enlargement, but the background is too dark for this contest, imho. Good luck.
