Yeah, he's standing (on one leg) on a plotter print background, and I was shooting from a ladder. Hope I don't get killed for using another one. :-/

The real challenge was keeping the shadows off the print in Basic. I've got four monolights and a reflector surrounding this setup. My son is a little young to take modeling direction, but he made me proud.

Processing: Convert from RAW, rotate and crop, channel mixer for saturation, color balance to remove slight magenta cast in the clouds, shadow/highlight +3 to lighten dark areas, slight Levels adjustment, USM.

Nice shot as always Shannon, deserved a ribbon but I personally would have liked it a lot better if it were showing a face in there somewhere, I donĀ“t really connect with the subject and the joy he must be feeling flying up in the clouds like that.

My favorite from the challenge, had a hunch it was yours. Congratulations on making the top3 :)
Would only mention one really tiny nitpick, would've been an 11 ;) if the propellor had some rotational motion blur.

I don't think that's a print. I think he tossed his kid out of a plane. Shannon will do that for a ribbon. :P

Super idea. Love the hat. I would like to have seen his face though. I don't know how you would have done that and still shown the propeller on the hat, however.

Cool! Very creative. The cloud background works well. I know I ask a lot, but if this propeller could turn somehow, I'm sure you're picture would ribbon. The colours seem to be oversaturated.

Okay, I think we found the blue ribbon winner. Fantastic shot and I look forward to (hopefully) reading about 'how did you do it' in the photo description. Walking on that blue sky and clouds starts to scream "advanced editing" but I am sure the proper thought and preparation were put into this one to stick with basic editing rules.

Great choices on the primary colors too. Score: 10.

I really like this one and the whole idea... but the lighting seems a little off to me. It doesn't look like the child blends in quite right. Otherwise, kudos to you for setting up the idea and going with it!

Ribbon? Great shot! Very imaginative. The only thing I'd say in critique is that I'm always a fan of the facial expression. If you could have gotten across the "flying" feel and include a little of the child's face I would love it that much more!
