I would like to thank my cousin, Karolina Czartoryska, for posing for this shot.

I don't think this has been done yet.

I bought a canvas, splashed black acrylic paint on it, cut out a whole for her face, painted her face black and voila. Well not really. The face paint absorbed all the light and the acrylic reflected it and so it was hard to get the two types of black to meld into one. As a result it was also a little hard to get the details in her face. After 45min, i think that the natural oils that our face tends to screet started to seep through the paint and that's why we actually see some light reflections. At fist it was all pitch black.

Post processing:
At first i thought this shot turned out to be a big fast waste of time and money. I spent quite a bit on this shot and the origilnal raw file looks like total crap. But I refused to just give up and began playing with the contrasts after having put it in grayscale. Soooo lots of contrast adjustments, some dodging and burning: the eyes, light spots on the acrylic paint and around the edges of the face to blend it in with the canvas.
Anyways, that's pretty much it.

Really neat! Exremely clever and creative - and excellent work on the difficult exposure. Black is such a tough color to work with!

Very cool and imaginative. Wish the black was a little blacker, but good photo nonetheless.
