Back when computers still used vacuum tubes a moth got into a computer. Being a moth it soon perished but it's body caused unpredictable errors to occur. The moth was found, removed and taped into the log book. To this day tracking down computer problems is still called debugging.

A rented macro lens and a found moth body helped this idea come to life. I left the dust in the old computer (can see it slightly in the image) with the idea that if a moth could get in a little dust could too)

Great idea. Needs better focus, either on the moth and/or nose of the pliers. Exposure looks pretty good

There is no real point of focus in the picture..

Most of the image is out of focus... lighting is good. With the subject of the image being the moth I presume (based on your title), it might have been a better fit to the challenge if there were more of the motherboard visible.

Yea ... that's certainly how the term came into being. I think the focus could be a little sharper. That would really help this picture to "pop".

Great idea! The focus is just missing the bug though. A more colorful insect would help make this a more interesting photo as well.

Oh, poor moth!!!! I love this concept, I hope you didn't kill that poor moth just for this shot! :) If the entire shot was in focus I would score much higher to start on this shot, the fuzzy needlenose pliers is a bit too distracting for me. Starting with a 6, I'll be back.

An original bug in the machine and an original "take" on the challenge!

The very tight DOF does not do the composition justice. If the moths wings were in sharper focus you could ahve probably dispensed with the tweezers.

Clever idea, and the machinery makes an interesting composition.

Too bad this is so out of focus. This might have been more interesting if the shot hadn't been made so head-on. Good idea though. I've always been amazed where you can find these guys!

This shot would be more interesting if something was in focus.

Clever idea, unfortunately far too blurry to recognise everything.

Ah, those in the business will understand this image. It's where the term comes from. I think you may have pushed past your camera's limits with this image. You have either cropped into a smaller area of the image, or the macro capabilities of your camera don't allow focus at this close of a distance. Your overall composition isn't bad, but you have all your elements bringing the eye to the center of the image. The angle of the tweasers, the moth, then the 3 round things all make for a very center weighted image. Your choice of lighting is probably a standard indoor light. You may want to see if your camera has a custom white balance for the type of lighting you used. Your image has the typical yellow tint to it due to the lights.

Things I might have tried: Custom white balance, landscape mode so as to allow more room for the tweasers and moth. Maybe bringing in the tweasers from another angle. The lighting may have worked better if it had been bounced off an object above your prop, so as to be a more diffused overhead light. I may have lowered the angle of the camera to introduce a 3rd dimension to the objects. Their current orientation leaves them lifeless and flat.

I do think that this concept is worth playing with. Addressing the limitations of your camera and lighting, I think that you have the possibilities of making a nice iconic piece of art.
