Had this idea and wanted a friend to pose but Aimee said it should be me. Had one cloudy and really windy day. Set the camera up in the road and had Aimee hit the plungger. My neighbors think we are nuts.

I was shooting for an old silent movie feel to the editing. The umbrella isnt in the best of positions and after a reshoot (wasnt sure if some of the editing i did was legal) I decided my body position and facial expression are what sold the shot more than a perfectly placed umbrella. I left space onthe right open for more of a feel of wind. It was windy but not in the direction I was facing.

PP - RAW conversionwith shadow and highlight contrast, sharpen and noise reduction. In PS - layered out background and progressively gaussian blurred it out, levels, saturation adjustment layers to shift to b&w, dodging and burning all over the place, cloned out a logo on my shirt and various leaves on the ground, high pass sharpen, USM, spot blurring, resize, NI, more cloning to clean up halos, USM again, border and save for web.

Awesome idea! The black and white works so wonderfully for this photo.
If there ever comes up another challenge to redo a photo, I think adding some newpaper and/or leaves blowing past you would make this stand out so much more (I think the biggest thing that hurts this photo is the leaves on the road that are seemingly not moving at all).

Great job :)

this is a very cool photo - but, shouldn't the umbrella be turned in inside-out, based on the direction that the wind is supposedly coming from?

the art of pantomine isn't dead :)

Like the humor and the b&w treatment - background distracts as it's light and busy. well composed otherwise, good selection of the B&W

Return for comment. Love this one. Reminds me of a movie. Doesn't look like a real wind scene, but it just has a great feel to it. Bumping to 9.

Nice pose and B&W choice. Some other evidence of wind would help, at least a leaf or two falling or moving, even if dropped by a person or blown by a fan. As it is, it feels too posed.

Good concept and technically nice but not convincing. You went to the extent to get an umbrella to look like it was wind blown but you didn't do anything to give us the illusion6 with your clothing [pants legs]. you could of stuffed them behind your legs with other material or eve a clothes hanger to make it look as if your pants was blowing in the wind as well.

Still a nice shot but would of scored higher it more convincing.

LOL! Hello, Mr Toole. I like the comic aspect of this quite a bit - kinda like those old movies but with cars and mailboxes. Your pose is quite convincing, particularly the look of grim determination.

there doesn't seem to be any actual wind here as far as i can tell. which makes his pose to me that much more impressive, he certainly makes one believe that there is an invisible force that he's fighting against. i also am glad for the b&w and the blurred background which helps keep the focus on the man. 9

Nice shot, with good contrast and great background seperation. I think there could either be more or less space on the right hand side - it feels proportionally wrong in some way. I'm not convinced about the border, either. Love the sharpness of the foreground, and the expression and the line of his arm is fabulous.

Good concept and pose.. just is distracting to me that the leaves on the street aren't blowing too.

nice idea, nice photo and all and its in my higher scores but, I'm a little bothered by the leaves on the ground that aren't being blown away by the huge wind.

This is a nice concept but the still leaves on the ground really give it that "obvious setup" feeling.

You need the effect of the wind pressing pant legs back against legs for this to really work. Good idea, though.

saw this image whilst browsing the thumbnails.. very very good, although the stationary dry leaves on the ground detract from the overall effect... very nice shot though.

Firstly, I really dig your frame as it adds to this theatrical submission. Since you went to the effort anyhow, a leaf blower may have kicked up some of the leaves on the ground that betrayed your subject. No need to worry as the betrayal was weak and you walk away with a 7 from me. Good luck!

This is superb. Makes me think of an old Charlie Chaplin movie. Great shot!!! Love the contrast and DOF.
