 My daughter, Shelby, at the Royal Boanical Gardens feeding birdseed to some bold chickadees right out of her hand. Lots of fun for the kids and great for photos.

It will be interesting to see how well/poorly this does at DPC, and how well/poorly it does in a professionally-judged competition I have it entered in with big prizes up for grabs.

Coolio, top 20 in a Free Study is great! Thanks for the votes & comments!

Here's the original, which is entered in this local contest, where it will be printed on an 8x10" and independantly judged by three pro photogs. No editing allowed for the contest, and there are real prizes, I think. A dSLR body+lens for best of show and a variety of p&s's for other category winners. Wish me luck, you never know. ;-)

Just got back from the awards ceremony and my entry got an honourable mention. I got to walk up in front of a couple hundred people and act like a fool for 15 seconds! :-D

great job editing this photo! prescious capture. It makes me wonder why she is holding her arm up though because if i was trying to feed a bird i woulndt be holding my arm up, but i guess it was to not scare the bird?

Fantastic capture... love the action of the bird mid flight, and the little girls expression of amazement. She's holding her arm so it is extra still so she doesn't scare the bird away... all the components are just perfect. Great focus, and the shallow dof makes the background just melt away. Some may say it has a snapshot sort of feel to it, but I think you did a wonderful job... this is a wonderful example of a great photo that captures a precious moment. I hope this shot does well for you!
