Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Lighting III (Basic Editing III)
Collection: Landscapes
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Location: Ithaca, NY
Date: Oct 14, 2006
Aperture: 25
ISO: 100
Shutter: Bulb (101 Seconds)
Galleries: Abstract, Nature
Date Uploaded: Oct 17, 2006

A 101 second exposure. A polarizer + ND8 and a tripod, together with leaves in the water slowly swirling to produce this pattern. I would have liked to ditch the reflection but the scene was so dark in my viewfinder, I had trouble seeing the effect of the polarizer.

Man, I wonder if using the polarizer first to check the reflection, and then adding the ND8 would have gone.

Man, I love this shot, I saw something akin to it in Outdoor Photo, but this goes levels beyond that by adding the dreamy processing. Love it, Love it, Love it.

Neil, this is crazy good!! I'm all about these kinds of pictures. What kind of ND8 filter were you using? Great job! Congratulations on your top 10!

Very magical location. I'd love to see this edited after challenge without the small rock and the "spirit". The spiral in the water is wonderful.

It's definitely intersting, but I have no idea what I am looking at. If the image was split by the top third and the bottom two thirds, you would never guess they were part of the same scene. And other than the "ghost", the top third is the most appealing part of the image. Good capture though - I look forward to the explanation. :)

Nice! What a pleasant composition for those falls! Wonderful study in motion and pattern!

I know exactly where that was taken as I dropped my lens hood into those waters last year about this time....you didn't see it, did you? ;-)
