The wood background does not help, IMO. I'd put this on some colored paper to compliment the ball's color.
The lighting on the ball is fine not so on the block. Perhaps try and diffuse the light some more using a curtain or sheet?
As for the composition, the angle you took creates an uneasy tension. To the viewer it looks like the ball is about to fall off. Perhaps a straight on shot or a lower angle would eliminate that. Also that might help put more focus on the different shapes present, which would boost interest, IMO. |

i think a different angle that doesn't include the table would have helped a lot. this looks rushed and poorly thought out. |

I like the composition of your photograph. However, the colors more likely resemble pink tones. I do not see purple in the subject. |
