I'm a huge fan of Gary Larson so I had to enter this one- ideally with something original. I came up with several ideas, but when I caught this large bullfrog it was time for a new game plan! It took me a few days to develop a scene and caption I was happy with. I kept the frog fed with crickets in a large plastic tote, then let him go free after the shot (though I'm sure he was traumatized for life). Many thanks to all three of my reluctant models... especially my boss there on the right who agreed to do this during working hours. ;-)

This was mostly Basic Editing (RAW conversion, Levels, Channel Mixer, saturation, USM). The only fancy editing I did was enlarging the frog about 200%, adding type to the background, and a little bit of Liquify on the expressions and frog. Hope you like it!

Post Challenge: Okay, so I didn't ribbon (hmpf!), BUT I was the only one in the top 10 that made up an original Far Side panel! ;-P

FWIW, the mummy and burning aquarium are among my favorite Larson works.

Congrats on yet another masterpiece. While your photographic talent is indeed something to behold, I never cease to be amazed by your creativity and sense of humour.

Very well done indeed.

The serious countenance and contemplative mood of the researches raises the twisted comedy level to a high degree. Congratulations on your top 10 finish.

Cool! Is this based on one of Larson's cartoons (if so, I'm not familiar with it) or your own cartoon in his style (in which case, kudos, I think it's spot on). Nicely presented too!

I Love it....using chemical equations instead of math would have made it even more enjoyable. Very nice shot as well. 8

would like to seem more of the 2nd scientists face and to see more of an expression out of them both.

Cute shot though! Love the concept.

Great setup. I have the feeling that this would pass even in basic editing. Well done with getting by without taking advantage of the extra rules (unless you did and thenwell done for not making it obvious). 8 for now - I plan on coming back.
