A simple picture of a simple drum against a black background. I love instruments and to me they are tough to photo. It is hard to find the right angle to make them interesting. This picture actually looks like butt in color, so I BW'd it, and I think it has come out ok. Even if a 5 is what this gets, I really like it and am blowing it up for my wall!

Light Crop
Contrast in Picasa to make background black
Sharpen in PS (very light)
Cloned out minor defects in drum
re-sized and saved

I like it alot. Took some time to figure out what it was exactly and that's a good thing sometimes.

Nice work here. took me a min to release it was a drum. It may work well in a mag that is designed around band instruments/marching whan't. But just doesn't hold enough for me. But it is very well exicuted.

Elengance simply stated, simply presented. Love how the light plays around the curve of the drum and illuminates it just enough to give us the identity of this musical instrument. The light carresses the subject perfectly. You present us with just a portion of this drum and that adds visual interest because the shape, the curve of the drum, is heighted. The negative space to the right might make some say it should be cropped out, but I say it serves a wonderful purpose. It serves as the perfect, simple backdrop for the presentation in that the drum slips out from the darkness and "pops" visually off the page. The B&W was an excellent choice for the photo as that colors would have 'complicated' and made the composition 'busy'.

Nice lighting on this capture. The drums makes for an interesting subject especially with the lighting you used. Nice shot.

I don't know what this is but it caught my eye and I had to take a moment to look. So, that's good! I want to think it's something like the front end of an antique car or juke-box but it's probably some kind of modern kitchen appliance. Anyway, nice job on making us think...(at least me anyway! Doh...)

beautiful black and white conversion. Lighting makes the scene.

Feel free to ignore me, but I just have to suggest the Star Wars method. The first Star Wars movie was a revolution in special effects because the spaceships were dirty. They looked used. Used things hold far more interest than brand new things. Used things hold the spirit of all those who have used them. Show us a drum that's been played!

I love it. Nice conversion and nice clean lines and sharp features. I love that the drum doesn't get lost in the background. Nice message.

Superb control of the lighting.
The subtle details are very clear and overall this works well with the negative space. Well done!

A little less space around the drum IMO but a nice image.
