I didn't even see this challenge until this afternoon, so I had only about 6 hours to think of something.

This is the feed end of our Heidelberg GTO 2-color press at the place I work.

I was going to call this "... Or Of The Press," but after I saw how flat the original was, I decided to ghost-back the image to 25% (tone curve, set 100% = 25%) which inspired the current title, emblematic of my opinion on how it's all going.

I think it was the former publisher or editor of the NY Times who said (long ago) "A free press belongs only to those who own one."

Good entry. I like the ghost effect, and the "message" of the picture. IMHO this should have ended up higher (but then, I'm probably letting my bias show - and as a former seamstress, I should know better than letting my bias show).

I like your 'statement', and while i see why needed to be 'faded' I wish was little less so was more visible image, still one of my favorites in this challenge.

I know what was being attempted here and it's a great idea, but it's just a little too faded.

It's hard to make out what the machine is. This is a good idea, but the rules in the challenge make this very hard to portray. Unfortunately, the outcome gives the appearance of a bad photo.

I don't get it....Where is the freedom that is fading??? What is the machinery that we are looking at??? This is a cool name, cool concept (fading away of our freedoms) but don't see freedom here because the subject is an unknown variable... If it was a typewriter or a gun or a bible (church, cross, insert religious symbol here) and all else was equal, 8 or more....this doesn't get that though.

Hope this helps.

I like the way diagonals are used here and your lighting seems to be right on. Interesting interpretation of "Freedom" :-)

A printing press, great idea! Nice effect "fading" it using your contrast.

what a message. Very well done, this is both artistic and original, and it speaks volumes.

This is a very interesting idea. I like it. The angle you used makes the piece very interesting. You can still make out what it is because of the great reflections and shadows you were able to capture.
