Location: Monte Vista, Colorado
Date: Jul 30, 2006
Aperture: F5.6

Date Uploaded: Aug 1, 2006

This was taken at the Ski-Hi Stampede Rodeo in Monte Vista, Colorado. It is really hard to get a good rodeo photo - the chutes and fences and all the ads stuck on the fences get in most of the pictures. I only got a few that didn't have all the extra crap in them.

I'm glad to be able to put a rodeo photo in a challenge. My husband is from a rodeo family, all his sisters was/are barrel racers and he was a team roper with his Dad. His sisters all married cowboys. His youngest sister, Terri Kaye, still barrel races and has been in the National Finals several years in a row now. Her two grown sons, Travis and Clay, are team ropers and have been in the National Finals for many years in a row, too.

Editing: Crop; shadow/highlight tool (darken highlights & lighten shadows a bit); adjustment layers for levels, curves and hue/saturation (increase sat for blue and cyan); flatten image; exposure adjustment for offset (-.0025) and gamma (1.03); contrast +1; resize; smart sharpen; save for web.

Awesome, Sammie! These shots are hard to capture. That horse moves fast and is irratic!

BTW - Again, we are parallel. My shot made 6th in the other challenge. Are you sure you're not my twinn?

7 - Like this. Good capture. Depending what you had to work with (obviously), perhaps a slight nudge rotate up on the right and a more refined crop would have enhanced this even more and allowed the shadow play to enter in more too. More 'cowboy' face visible make this even better too - but opportune, again - obviously.

great stop action and nice handling of the exposure - I'm just wishing there was a bit more room to the left and top - nice job regardless - best of luck!!

We've seen photos like this before, but your photo is clear, sharp and perfectly balanced. I would like to try a similar photo with a slow shutter speed. Steady ground, moving subject. If you know what i mean...
Very good shot.

I have been looking at this image for a very long time now. It gets better and better. A beautiful moment that we'd never be able to enjoy without this image.
With all the raw energy in it, there's yet such a beautiful and delicate flow to the shapes and shades.
You have done an excellent job to capture it and present it for all to enjoy.
Brilliant photography.

More space on the left could win better marks.
