Challenge: Action Shot II (Basic Editing III)
Collection: People
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM
Location: Saratoga Raceway
Date: Jul 29, 2006
Aperture: 8
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/320
Galleries: Sports, Action
Date Uploaded: Aug 1, 2006

For those wondering about the 10th place shot in this challenge, it's also from Saratoga Raceway, and it was taken by my son, with my camera, later in the day. His is better (but in my defense, he had better light!)

Not only did he get a better shot, but I lost the races I picked and he won $55 in a $2 exacta!

Great shot - wonderful lines and toning and excellent action. Nice of you to let your son come in ahead of you, too.

I love the shot being from a head on perspective....and it being in B&W was perfect.

Great use of B&W. Great action shot. Perfect composition. My only complaint is really not valid because it is purely in the eye of the beholder: the frame. The frame for me, is too heavy and distracting from an otherwise excellent photo. In my top 10 for this challenge. Question: Should the white fence in the back been absolutely horizontal? 9

Wonderfully composed. Great clarity and detail. Selecting B/W works very well here as it helps to isolate your subjects even more and removes distracting bg items. Well done!

Love the speed and strength that you caught in this photo. Very nice timing. The splatter shows a great shutter speed. 9.

What a great action shot, really nailed the challenge theme perfectly. Love the BW processing and love how you've balanced the composition. Really the only 'bad' comment I would make is I don't care for the white line you've included in the border. Other than that, really nice shot. 8.

Best horse shot of the challenge I've seen so far. Nice that you neutralized the colors by going duotone. Great job. 9
