Wow I can't believe a top 10 finish. I am pleased and want to thank everone that commented and voted. I was actually on my way to take an action shot for the other exclusive open challenge when I drove by a muffler shop and saw this out back and immediately thought this would be good for bits and pieces. I pulled in to the parking lot and got out my camera. I was approached by two men that worked their asking what I was doing. I told them photography was my hobby and I like the lines and tones of the subject and asked could I take a picture. They paused and one man say yes but just one and then you have to go. I thanked him, took one picture (this one), and left. I did not even go to the place I was going to get the action shot. I believed in this picture. And thankfully it turned out good with one take.
Thanks Everyone,
SDW

I quite liked this when voting - not exactly sure why, either. Something about the juxtaposition of shapes, textures, and colors, all realized with good light, good clarity. Maybe that's it.

Nice abstract quality to this image. No hot spots on all that metal. It looks like you chose the perfect overcast day. 10

WOW! I hope this does better than I suspect it will. As a rule, pictures like this fail miserably in DPC (I know 'cuz I have entered a few) but the tonal qualities here are fantastic, and the composition works for me as well. Good luck! I'm glad I came in to finish voting :-)

This shot reminds me of muffler alley in Dhahran Saudi Arabia. Great contrast between the newer and rusted metal.

I like this shot. The pipes pull the eye around and while it is a busy shot, it doesn't overwhelm me to the point of distraction. I don't care for the border, but I find that I rarely see any benefit to a border being added. Only thing I really would gripe about here is that jumble of wires in the lower right corner. They have no place in this shot and are a bit of a distraction. Nice work. 5.

Nicr rusty rustica. The interlocking composition is very rhythmic. 8.
