Well, I couldn't think of anything to shoot for this challenge without spending beyond my budget, or ending up with a new pet turtle, frog or fish, so Dave opened his big mouth and said that I could paint his bald head and I took him up on it, lol. Was nice to have a new model for a change. I let him pick the color and the background, I was going for a really bright green, but afterall, he's the one that was going to be covered in paint.

Processing: I did quite a bit of this... Seems I can't get my little studio to do good portraits; I can't seem to figure out the lighting, maybe I need one more, who knows... I used quite a bit of layers and masks to adjust the color balance, hue/saturation, contrast, shadow/highlight, sharpening and blurring separately for the BG and Dave's head. Also used some healing to get rid of some wrinkles in the BG. I also put a red photo filter on the insides of his lids and used healing to blend it because we didn't want to get paint that close to his eyes and Dave had a hard time letting me get the eyeliner that close either... Seems that I take for granted all the practice I've had with muscle control in putting on make-up, lol. But yeah, finished it all up with some slight burning around the edges...

I hope you guys like this, otherwise, I'm getting a turtle.

This is amazing! What a sport he is. Don't get a turtle, keep shooting people! OK, go ahead and get a turtle...but keep shooting people, too. The red is a great choice and the eyes are incredible. I really appreciate the fact that they are not bloodshot (my pet peeve:).

The shadow doesn't really bother me. It sort of creates a sinister feeling; even though he looks pretty non-sinister under that paint. Nice work, Amanda!

hmm... a few people have mentioned the shadow on his head, really, most of that is where the paint was too thin, I did the finishing up while he was standing, so I didn't really notice the top of his head, lol, and then the shadow just happened to fall that way, so it was magnified... oh well, guess I could've painted it more once I noticed, but I didn't want to make it longer than it had to be.

Thanks everyone for the comments, lol, and yeah he's get a nice big bald head... perfect for painting

Great stuff with the eyes.

Bit of a dark spot on the head from lighting...

Did you start with your lights at 90 degrees or 120 degrees angle from each other? Maybe they need to be a tiny bit higher... ?

Lighting can be really tough.

I think you are definitely starting to move beyond "coming along nicely" now...

Nice to shoot someone else for a change isn't it?

A nitpick would be in the strange soft appearance of the eyes. A bit of sharpening or something might give them a bit more snap... maybe. I'd try a fairly wide radius with some strong amounts masked just to the eyes on a separate layer and maybe in darken mode and play with the opacity... Just a guess.

Gave this an 8. Yet another creative, well-done shot from you. You're definitely demonstrating repeatedly why you're on my favorite photogs list. :)

And that was before I even realized the connection between the title and the crop!

The things you people will do for a challenge! :D The contrast with the eyes is just awesome. The crop feels a little bit awkward but I guess it works with the title. Nicely done.

Not sure about the title though it almost lines up perfectly with where the mouth should be. Great detail in the face even with the makeup and the contrast of the blue eyes is awesome. I really like this one. 10.

I'm always amazed at the lengths people go for challenges.
I love the way his eyes pop out so much. He has gorgeous eyes!
The red color is also pretty impacting.
the lighting seems just perfect. There's a little dark shadow that starts on his forehead and goes up his head, but i'm okay with that.

I was just going to make a comment about how I didn't think the title fit the picture very well, but I just got it. Or at least I think I did.

Anywho, I like this a lot. So good luck with this photo. I hope you do very well!

Wow! I love the composition, the eyes, the idea. Great execution. I tried to get some family members to paint their face, but they wouldn't have it. I love this picture, I'm adding it to my favorites, great job!
