 I don't really know what this thing is for - I would guess it's either for picking stuff up from the sea bed, or possibly for loading and unloading things like tangled scrap metal to and from barges.

I took pictures the day before, lying on the ground to try and emphasise how big this thing is, but that lost me the context of sea, containers etc. I cycled back without a tripod, silly me, but when I saw the need for stopping down to bring out the stuff in the background, I found a handy bit of concrete to rest the camera on.

USM - overlay - selective colour to blue up and darken the sky (in addition to the polarising filter, to bring out the red rust) - rotated the silos to vertical and cropped just a little.

No great expectations here, I just felt a bit silly and thought I'd take 'beach' a long way to the edge of its semantic field ...

The rusty color, the unusual shape and the contrast with the background work well together. Great sharp DOF; this is not a time for bokeh (background blur).

This is a good shot of a non-typical item. Light is perfect. The "flower" seems to have a nasty grin on it! You make it look very imposing.
