Since 1998 we have wanted to go downtown for the 4th of July celebration. This year, with family in town, we packed up and headed out. Afterall, you should try something at least once. A quick study on taking firework pictures definitely helped me achieve this shot.

Hi! Here’s a comment from the Critique Club.

First Impression:
Nice clean lines, nice colours and lighting

Composition:
Perspective of monument seems un-natural. Right side vertical, Left side significant lean. May be optically correct from where you took the picture, but it feels uncomfortable for the viewer. Rotating the picture a few degrees CCW would make it less noticeable.
Too bad you could not have captured the bust in the top third of the frame.

Subject:
Meets challenge

Technical:
Not sure what you did in terms of post processing, but based on your “10” entry, you did do some. Colours, contrast, focus and DOF are really well done.

Suggestions:
You may want to move the burst and add picture to your portfolio. Would be a really great shot!

Summary:
Congratulations on your 11th place finish and your first 6+ shot!

Thanks for all the helpful comments. This was my best photo in the series. I too wish the fireworks would have been higher. Since this was my first time to DC to see the firework display, I know where I want to be next year.

Love the blue and the placement. Great job on getting the Monument to. Good detail. It's an 8 for me!

This is a very striking one! Fantastic perspective, and I love how razor sharp every light beam is in that firework! Beautiful job.

Nice and crisp and well exposed. The composition is uncomfortable for me with the monument's focal pt and the firework being so far from each other. Would have been funny as a "10" submission.

Wish the firework was higher in the sky- but still a solid 8
