Black velvet backdrop on a staircase of bricks supporting planks. Flowers represent the colours of the ribbons - did you notice? Required four sessions to achieve an acceptable result, each time 30+ shots! A+ for effort.
Post processing: clip black to remove background, increase gamma for lighter mid-tones, increase saturation on red and blue, reduce on yellow, NeatImage for a sharper image.

Thank you commentators - you make the effort worthwhile. There were some really good photos this challenge which did well and a few that weren't so good that did well too, as usual. It is all in the eye of the beholder.
I shall keep trying and as long as I please myself and a few of you (and learn a bit too), all is well.
Thank you!

A ONE and 15 total votes of 4 and below. Those voters should be ashamed of themselves. I mean come on! I invite the ONE and and 14 others 4 and below to defend themselves and explain why this photo is in their eyes below average and worthy in any way of the "BAD" end of the scale. Or did you think 1 was for 1st place?
Anyway, while you were a little bit robbed here Hugh, thank you for putting in such an obviously great effort once again that at least some of us can admire and learn from.

Not sure if it'll reach ribbon heaven, but it should get pretty close. Nice idea, great contrast, lighting and detail. This is probably a bit nit-picky, but it stands out to me that the angels don't seem entirely lined up. Maybe it's a perspective thing. Other than that, great shot.

Great idea! Nicely set up, the flowers look great. Very effective background, your lighting is great, those angels don't look easy to light well. Angels aren't entirely to my taste though, so score: 8

WOW! BLUE!, BLUE!! Exxxxxcellent idea, perfectly executed! I am amazed. This is the BEST shot for this site in history and should be added to the homepage forever! Absolute iconic brilliance!! Genius! 10++++++ Anyone who votes under 9 for this is a fool with an attitude problem.

A creative idea well executed. Your lighting works well and the exposure is great. The front angel is slightly out of focus, but you are obviously focusing on the blue. This photo is worthy of a ribbon; I hope you get one.

Excellent composition. The figures are full of clear detail, and the colors are bright and vivid. Good job, you just might get a glimpse of heaven. ;)

Without a doubt my abosolute favorite for this challenge, you are bound to get one of the ribbons :) The idea, composition, and technical execution are absolutely flawless and you meet the challenge. If I look around the pic long enough I might notice that the first angel is just a little bit more exposed than the others, but I'm really nitpicking there. The crop is just a little bit tight at the bottom for me but regardless, your lighting is fantastic and they really do seem to be floating! Wow. :)

meets the challenge all right! a flower on each angel's hand would have been interestiong, the others sort of distract from the repetition theme and the pic in general

Great idea. I love the contrast between the black & white tones and the three colours. I think it´s one of the best picture of this challenge, and for me no doubt, this is the best picture. 10

Your composition is very good, and I quite like the color bits, I am sorry to say I don't particularly like the angels ( not that i don't like real angels: ) ) Black background makes for a dramatic image, so even tho the angels are n't my personal taste I have to give you a good score for a very successful image. Well done.

the coloured flowers lift this beyond what it might have been (which was boring). It shows you put some more thought into it than just finding three statues the same. Subject matter doesn't interest me much but the shot is well done.

Beautiful. I wonder if you tried this with different backgrounds (flowers, feathers, different fabrics). Different backgrounds could create a much softer image, but like I said, this one is very beautiful.
