Challenge: Glass II (with a twist) (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Minolta DiMAGE A1
Location: California
Date: Jun 25, 2006
Aperture: F7.1
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/5000
Galleries: Abstract, Sky
Date Uploaded: Jun 26, 2006

I took this picture of a skylight. The surrounding walls were white, so it caught the light in a nice way. Also, the chimney-like indention created a nice framing for the window and the light coming in.

From the Critique Club:

First of all, let me say welcome back! Don't know what kept ya out of challenges for so long, but looking forward to what future challenges hold for you. That said...

This looks like it has huge potential. I hope it is in your home or a place that you can visit easily at any time. I love the potential that this shows. Imagine shooting through this during one of the sunsets that covers the whole sky in blood red. Or a lighting bolt runing through the scene. Or the moon lighting up the really dramatic whispy clouds... See what I mean?

Now take a look at what you have here. It's a window with some clouds. There is nothing to hold the viewers interest. No drama so to speak. It's just a window. And it's not shot straight. You can tell this from the distortion of the rectangle. So while you have a good eye for a location and have found one with some potential, it just doesn't carry through in this image.

Yours
TC

A little bland for my taste. Might be better with a bright sky and just a cloud or two.

Pretty cool shot! I really like it, too bad this is basic editing and you couldnĀ“t edit the sky separate, I can just see this with even more dramatic clouds. 7 from me.

Nice simple shot. I think I'd prefer a little more contrast to add some life to the clouds.

The simple composition is nice. A bit flat in color/contrast.

the simplicity of your entry is great :) though, the window's a bit tilted and there is a black wall (?) at the left side. could use a bit more contrast.

Extraordinary, nicely observed, nicely framed. I fear the invisibility of the glass in the photo will cost a lot in terms of points, but I like the result

This would be better if less noisy and the dark spots in the corners were cropped out otherwise nice. nice comp. and concept.

Cool idea. A little more sunlight shining into your portal and maybe a more golden cast to the clouds would really enhance this.
