Ok, before I see any more "it's sad" comments about this pic - let me just say that it was meant to be somewhat humorous - "Shift Change" meaning these guys take shifts panhandling beer money. I watched them chat for a few minutes, then the guy on the right handed the sign to the other guy and picked up his backpack and his starbucks and walked off while the guy on the left held the sign up.

Sorry I have no sympathy for these guys. They use Christian words and symbolism to dupe "gullible Christians" (I've heard that term used before). One time I asked a guy holding a similar sign if he had a Bible - he said he didn't have one, so I offered to go buy him one and bring it back and he said "don't bother".

I've been to many Christian churches and worked with Christian organizations that help the homeless and they will help those (Christian or otherwise) in need, but only if these people are willing to take responsibility and work on the broader issues of their situation, not just their next meal (or beer). If they really want help, there is no reason for these people to be standing on the freeway exits.

I know, I'm such a cold-hearted bastard. ;-)

Ok, I will be a basher too: what gets me is the ones who smoke ready mades.

You must have posted this once before, because I'm sure I commented on it way back then. Maybe I just meant to do so; good intentions. That's really what this pic is about, isn't it? Good intentions, and how to make them dance.

I'm fascinated how so many of them can afford to buy cigarettes, then have to beg for "bus fare".
Ken, I admire your courage to take a photo of them - I always worry about what they're likely to do if they catch me with my camera pointed at them.

funny; they should dress in suits and ask people for train fare home from grand central station. They probably make more than most people doing this.

ouchie.. the feeling of holding your hand out must be horrid.. maybe the duotone would do well for the pic.. hmm.. dunno if it should be made into an artistic piece in any case..
