---Greetings from the Critique Club!---

First impression - Great shot!

What can I say that hasn't already been said by all the commenters? You really hit the mark on this one. Meets the challenge perfectly, great colors, nice detail in the sky, on and on.

Since this is the critique club, the only element I would have done differently is the horizon. Horizons that cut right through the middle of the frame bother me a bit. If you look at great landscapes and seascapes you will see that the most powerful images have the horizon 1/3 form the bottom or 1/3 from the top. I think if you came up just a bit on the bottom and had a bit more sky this really strong image would be improved. Of course this is my opinion. I certainly think the shot is deserving of the high placement that the DPC voters gave.

Congratulations on a superb capture!

I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

A very apt interpretation of the challenge - works on so many levels - the desolate area overlooking a populated area, the colors that are muted and almost drab - it's all good. Good luck!

Excellent capture of desolation.

Wow, great colours. I wish the ree were a little more to the left, though, to fall on one of the thirds lines. Otherwise, a very beautiful photograph.

I love the colors in this. The dead grass and tree give it a definate feel of desolation instead of just an empty landscape. My pic for the blue.

You really have great tone here; black bush as central focus; and a truly spectacular variety of hues that start cool on the horizon and get warm at the fore and in the sky at the edges. nice work.

For some reason this image makes me think of the end of the book of Jonah, from the Old Testament. Cool shot.

Fine picture and challenge appropriate. colors in the sky seem a little strange but a striking picture nevertheless.

I would move the tree a little farther to the left. Great shot.

I love the way the sky looks and the colors also. For desolation though I think you should have gotten rid of all of those houses perhaps.

It's good to see lots of colours in this challenge, I was afraid that I would be voting on 198 dreary black and white photos. This really invokes desolation to me - well done. I would have moved the tree a bit more to the left, it feels like it's not sure if it wants to be a centred composition or a rule of thirds...

good title, the scene is obviously desolate and lets viewer just look around at all the details without being forced to think of something

This is nice. Good placement of the tree and good desaturation of the colours

A classic beauty. If I changed anything I might tweak levels a smidge and burn the clouds a bit. The composition and setting is spot on.
