No..no..no.... It's BECAUSE those people are there that makes this shot. It gives dimension and a reality of what it's like there. Well done! I just KNEW you'd get the blue!!

There are 5 people in the frame. It would be much more impressive if there were only those 3 that are up against the glass. Then it would be like in a dream. But still, awsome photo

there is almost this EXACT same image in the June 15th edition of the USA Today. Shockingly similar. I guess you have a similiar eye to that particular photographer.

what a fantastic idea! certainly an unexpected find. brilliant b/w. i like the silhouettes. great shapes. the biggest fish really adds balance to a busy composition. makes it seem neatly organized. and it made me smile, which is always refreshing.

This is a beauty. I thought it was the grand aquarium they have in Okinawa, Japan. They have whale sharks there too. Well done on the ribbon - well deserved. The 350XT does some nice images in your hands!

I find this shot simply amazing! I had recently gone to the Baltimore Aquarium and found it practically impossible to shoot anything of the fish or sharks there because the lighting was so poor. I had already thought about going to see this aquarium because I had read they had whale sharks. But your picture has just sealed the deal! I will be heading down there ASAP simply so I can try and replicate the detail you have in this incredible picture!

Wow, my first ribbon. Thanks to everyone for all the great comments and votes.

The pic was taken at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. I shoot there as often as possible, always fighting the low lighting. Usually the whale sharks stay at the top of the tank, so I was happy when this one dove down. All the fish fell into place and I was lucky to capture such a dynamic compostion.

Editting consisited of:
Raw conversion
Cropping
Levels
Shadow / Highlight
Curves
Brightness / Contrast
USM
Neat Image
Channel Mixer

A lot of people commented on the choice of B&W over color. Originally I was going to use a color image, but the color actually seemd to detract from the strength of the tonal range and compostion, so I decided to go B&W.

Thanks again!

Wow, Wow, Wow! I didn't get a chance to look at this challenge but I'm so glad this won a ribbon, because I would be kicking myself for missing this. What I want to know is how long you had to sit there until this fantastic scene presented itself so wonderfully to you? I love this aquarium and now will have to go back and plant myself in this very spot to see if I could be so lucky as to get half a good a shot as this one. Congrats on your blue ribbon and into my favorites this goes!

Great shot. A pity about the two heads in the foreground that mar the composition.
The choice of black and white was a clever one, since the various groupings of fish create bands of tone (tightly grouped lower fish, one large shark and looser group of rays above) that probably wouldn't be revealed as easily in colour. Plus the silhouette of the viewers at the bottom of the tank is strengthened without colour.

I have NEVER seen that many stingrays at one time! This is an amazing shot! Great lighting and detail! 10!!
Hope you put where this aquarium is in your profile. If this doesn't win the blue.....it will be a shame!
Thanks for sharing!!

I was just shooting at the georgia aquarium this week so i fully appreciate just how hard these shots can be especially with the dark aquarium lighting. this is BEAUTIFUL! should have cropped out the noisy people at the bottom. almost perfect. 9

What a great shot! Very cool. I wish the two in the front could have cut you a break and left for a minute. They are a little distracting. I like the B&W and the silhouettes of the three people. 7 from me with a potential to bump.

This is fantastic. I'm so glad it's in b&w too - the shapes are what make it, and they are shown off brilliantly without the distraction of colour. I'm expecting to see this do very well indeed!
