The idea for this photo was to photograph cars speeding through a green traffic signal, using a long exposure time to capture the streaming tail lights of the cars. This would hopefully give the photo a sense of speed. The trick, once I started, was to leave the shutter open long enough to get a good long stream of tail lights, but not so long that I completely overexposed the green light. It was very hard to get one without the other. This photo was my best attempt at it.

To make the shot right for the "Green" challenge, I wanted to drain out all the color except for the green light, which I did by playing with the various color levels. Given the fact that that the green light was pretty much overexposed, I was relatively happy with how the green light ended up looking.

This was my first time playing with night photography and my first time working with long exposure times for effect. It was a fun exercise, but I'm not sure it turned out a really high quality image for the voters at DPC. Hopefully I'll get some votes for a creative idea.

Post Processing: Adjust color levels, crop, re-size, save as jpeg, run through the free demo version of Neat Image.

I think this is a great shot...and for the challenge I understand you only having the green stand out...but I think it would be a more captivating shot if you left at least the car lights in...Great work though

Edit for spelling

Beautiful shot. Similar to one I had in mind but you've got a better stretch of road. :-)
