Lightning can travel up to 10 miles so when this one struck about 1/2 a mile away it frightened me. Right after this one hit two other ones hit about 50 feet from my vehicle. My window was down so needless to say I was shaking in my shoes. I grabbed my equipment and took off. Thank God I wasn't struck.

I have tried lightning photography here in AZ, I know what you mean when it hits close, and all the way to the ground! But the risk paid off, this is an AMAZING shot!

That's really a superb shot; I hadn't really had a close look at it before. I guess you're lucky (?) living in a lightning zone like that.

What a tremendously gorgeous photo this is. I love the purple and the detailed branching visible on all the bolts.

50 ft away you say? Very lucky indeed! Good thing you were in your car!

Thanks for all the kind comments and score. I'm so pleased to finally ribbon, especially with a lightning shot. It's tough on DPC with so many wonderful photographers. Thanks again. Maceo

I understand that being in a car in a lightning storm is the safest place to be. Your tyres insulate you from the possibility of current passing through and earthing out of your body. But then again, it does look very much like a heck of a storm. I would have been concerned about blowing the circuits in the camera.

Excellent shot of lightning. I have picked this as top ten. Composition is good. Nice depth of field. It is good to see you didn't just open up the apeture wide and hope for a sharp photo. Good job.
