Taken with a 10.5 fish from about 12 inches away. single continuous light from a softbox to the right of the camera. that's Jack in the pic. he's 6. and very cool.

the centred crop was very intentional. it's unnatural which I'm certain adds to the disconcerting feeling you get when you look at it. the border highlight was sampled from the mask, which again was intentional. the whole thing came out exactly as i envisioned it, so I'm very pleased with it, despite all of the 'errors'. :P

You are always so creative and come up with new twists on what might otherwise be "ordinary" shots. This is no exception - you've turned this into something special and spectacular. Congrats on your top 10 finish.

I like the photo - good contrast, good levels... contrary to what some commenters will probably say, I think the border works but I would have liked the border better if it was a uniform distance from all edges.

I love this image, but would prefer the subject offset a bit more. Such a minor thing, and certainly a personal issue (e.g. does not detract at all from your work).

Nice soft light. Interesting photo. My eye is drawn to the border which is lighter that other elements of the image - not a good thing. 8

you have such a twisted mind...but you take awfully purty pitchers. :) i love how he looks so little and alone but still looks like something from a skeery movie. excellent tone and lighting.

I hope this does well for you. A striking and slightly disturbing image that holds the eye and poses interesting questions for the mind.

Probably didn't need a border.

Very cool effect. Am not sure if I would like it more less centred but I have a feeling it might have helped

I love this. Love it--lovely shadows! I like how there's a little light in the background, keeping the black sweater from disappearing into the darkness--wonderful depth. And the mask--I love how one eye we can see and the other is a black hole. Nice work, nice work; this better ribbon! 10.

This is freaky. I only wish you had a more agressive/outrages crop to match the subject.

I love the idea and execution of this. My suggestion would be to off center the subject just a tad though.

I recognize this idea from the 30 days self portrait challenge. This must be one of Pedro. Correct me if I'm wrong. Good shot, I love the lighting and the brown color.
