Greetings from the Critique Club!

First impression: beautiful landscape with just great DOF. Then I looked at the challenge - Failure, and I've concluded that you must have gotten at least a few views where voters thought that it is the title that makes it fit into a challenge. That's something to keep in mind if you want to satisfy those DPCers. In that case, you would have needed to show an empty net, bag, or a basket, and that would have been hard with such composition.

Second look: bottom is too dark. Not enough detail in it, and you could have cropped some of it, and still preserve the gradient from dark to light(er). Even the rule of 3rds would not have been affected if you had made this choice.

Look at the exif: Wow! 4s exposure and the sillhouette is tack-sharp! That's what I call a cooperating model!

Now I'm going to check out how did it do in the challenge:4th! Well, I was about to attempt to advise you on how to score higher... and I think I ran out of suggestions already!

Congratulations on your great placement and good luck in the future challenges.

Now that I got a DQ for something I didn't know wasn't allowed, congrats on 4th place. As I said in my comment earlier, it's a beautiful photo, but how many times I look at it, I still can't see anything connected to failure in this photo.

Stunning. The black/gold combination really adds punch. The silhouette is tack sharp and it is something we can all relate to - especially with the excellent title. Congrats. This is lovely.

Congrats on the top 5 finish but don't you hate those 4th and 5th place finsihes. So close and yet so far. :)

Shot is pretty cool, like it a lot, reminds me of Roberts photos (Bear_Music) and that is meant as a compliment. Love the lighting in this shot. However, this doesn´t scream "failure" at me without the title so I "only" gave this an 8.

Sorry but even catching 'nothing' in those scenic surroundings I would consider it a 'great' day. Like they say... "Even a bad day fishing, beats the heck out having to work". Very warm and appealling image. Well done.

Real nice amber-gold silky tones and nice complementary lines between the cloud formation and the pier. Love this image in itself, just can't figure out what it's doing under this challenge.

Great toning and excellent silhouette capture. To me, this failure is still a success. If it were me, I'd feel successful in the fact that I sat fishing all day without working even a little bit. Still, a superb image that should finish very strongly.

Wow that looks really nice. Great Shot.
BUT! I don't read titles in Photo Contests? What's the failure here?

Without the title this image does not say failure....4
