This is an idea I have had for a while, I got as far as setting fire to my thumb. Took a couple of \\\'dry\\\' shots then went and had plenty of single malt before filling a glass of meths and lighting a candle.

Just dipped fingers in meths, wafted over candle and clicked wired remote before dipping hand in pan of water. No acting here, it hurt like f**k!! (bought some much needed burn cream today as well).

Am hoping this does well - for the pain it caused me as much as being a decent shot ;)

Hello, Greetings from the Critique Club.

As requested, here is an indepth critique of your submission. Please keep in mind this is a personal opinion.

Auwtsj! That must hurt! Love the expression on your face. What people will do to get a great humorous photo! Taking a look at your score and the 10th place, you did a great job.
But, there is one thing I'd like to add.
First of all, The cropping is a bit strange. You've got a big space at the top & right of the image, and a bit tight at the left of the image. That makes the composition a bit weird. I don't know if there was a chance to change the crop, and this might be just nitpicking ;-)
Lighting, black background and focus are great, so no comments about that.
The shape of the flames are awesome, like they're arranged.

Big compliments for being so brave and taking a wonderful shot like this!

I hope you've found this critique helpful. Good luck with future challenges!

Congratulations on your rop ten finish. Had you not explained I would have taken it as an illusion. This is the real thing.

I hope you are mending well. Quite an amazing shot. I am guessing meths are gasoline. The word is used way different on this side of the pond.
Congrats on the top ten, great shot man!

Good Lord! There are much safer ways to accomplish this type of shot. LOL! At least we know how passionate you are about photography and DPC!

Oh man! You didn't think of any tricks to slow the flame down? Now that is hardcore! Maybe using a bit of wax or something on your fingers to protect them? AYEE! I realize that wax is also flammable, but I think it might burn slower and give you a moment to shoot and put it out...

Take care with those fingers... they are important for camera operation.... and a few other things I think.... Incidentally, there's quite a large number of nerve endings in our fingertips... I guess you know that pretty well now... :)

The lighting is really good in this. I am reminded of my own difficulties with a similar setup... Well done.

LOL, the expression on the subject's face makes this photo! I like the use of the black background which makes the subject jump out at you. The crisp focus and lighting are excellent!

I always think that head on fire have more symbolic effect than hands on fire. None-the-less, it is a well executed image. The symbolism is obscure, though.
