Yes this was a LOT of work, and I wish it had been Advanced Editing! Everything you see here is real... no prints or monitors involved.

Processing: Converted from RAW, curves, levels, Noise Ninja, shadow/highlight, USM and HSL.

Wow... I was hoping for a high score, but didn't expect a blue. I'm a little embarrassed by the lighting, though. I was trying to keep it low so the lamp would show up, but then the hamster was too dark (I borrowed the hamster from a friend and didn't know how big it was or what color until a few hours before the deadline). I sacrificed a lot for that little lamp: a mini Christmas tree bulb with a phone wire running down through the spool and along the seam, then taped to two D batteries behind the wall. The lamp shade is a candy wrapper. Getting the hamster to look at the camera was luck and determination... I'd prop him up on the cap and get off maybe two shots before he tried to scurry away. He kept grabbing the cloth, too (good thing I glued it down). My kids were rolling on the floor watching me try to control the little varmit.

Next time just glue the hamster's paws to the table! :D Though you might want to use something other than your lens cap... Great shot, all the effort was worth it.

Shannon, I just calibrated my monitor with a Huey and this looks totally different. Not sure if it's actually right yet, but before the hamster was pretty dark, now I can see it's fur pretty well. I'm almost afraid to go back and look at my shots. But somehow, I still need to figure out if this setting is right!

Congrats again.

I would LOVE to see your outtakes on this! Better yet would have been someone videotaping you trying to do this. I'm amazed that you pulled this off! I know advanced editing would have made it easier, but this has to have made the win so much sweeter! Great job!!

My son (username yakatyou) was looking over my shoulder and marveling at this shot. When he noticed who's shot it was he said "Oh, it's scalvert" in the tone of voice that sounds like someone saying 'well that explains everything."

You know that you've got a reputation when a twelve year old recognizes your work.

WTF??? Hahahah, this one definitely takes the cake... or the lenscap? I actually like the lighting here, because it adds to the mousehole feeling of the shot. Most impressive, however is the creativity. I knew whoever was taking the blue on this challenge would be going outta the way to get it. Congrats on a more than well deserved blue!

I love shots that tell a story, and this one is fantastic. This reminds me of a story I vaguely remember when I was growing up, with a little thread spool as a mouse's table, etc. It's a tiny bit grainy, which is the only thing keeping it at a 9 instead of a 10 for me.
