Colour shot of a building under redecoration in Paul Street, London, UK. Despite being a bright day, this building was having none of it, seeming to shun the sunny ambience!

The horizontal lines are the seams of the building wall.

This scaffolding reminded me of a harbour view with a jetty and wooden pillars.

I like the initial ambiguity. If it were on JPR's gallery wall at a ridiculous price, almost everyone's first-glance-from-a-distance conclusion would be to see the masts of yachts against the sky. Perhaps to wonder, an instant later, why one of them is lying over at an alarming (for yachts) angle. But you approach and the scene transforms into this clever romp with just a few everyday elements. And then there's the last laugh; the horizontal seams through what one thought of as the "sky". It has the qualities of a really good sketch - the appearance of being unfinished, but on closer inspection it is seen to be quite complete.

I'm kicking myself now. When I voted on this during the challenge, I must admit that I didn't give it enough time, the very same criticism I levy at others. Now that I've looked again, I realise that this is a very powerful shot. JasonPR's comments are on the ball.

This is a great photo all around. Great abstract perspective, simple composition, and a slight amount of disorder adds interest. The black and white textures are a subtle contrast to the abrupt lines.

beautiful in its simplicity.

The negative space is effective, however, the horizontal lines are a little distracting, they almost remind me of folds in a piece of paper. Using grayscale I think helps with the white or 'overcast' sky. The angled pole (or what appears to be scaffolding) makes an interesting contrast or change to the vertical poles.

The title suggests to me that these are masts of boats however it looks more like scaffolding? Also the two faint lines running horizontally across the picture are quite distracting.

Great image. I love the different angles and details that you've captured. I am giving higher marks because of the detail retained in the poles - it adds so much more interest when there is texture to the dark areas.

10. I absolutely love this shot but I don't see it doing all that well in the challenge, but I hope I'm wrong. The simplicity is perfect. The lines tones and shadows are a gentle mix of pattern and chaos. An urban jungle. Oh, it could represent or be so many things. It is art and belongs in a gallery selling for a ridiculous price.

Negative space should have a purpose. This is negative space for the sake of the challenge.
