Stunning electrical storm over Glasgow tonight, grabbed camera and brolly and went out.

My first sttempt at photographing lightning and I'm absolutely delighted. This was the only useable shot from around 30.

I was standing on a bridge looking East up the Clyde back into the city cowering under a golf umbrella and the rain was lashing down. The noise was amazing and the skies had this stunning purple hue.

enhanced a bit after reading Bear Music's excellent Landscape Thread using shadow/highlight tool.

very very pleased with this shot no matter what anyone says

Steve

Awesome shot!!!! Absolutely thrilled about seeing the shot. I myself was trying to get a shot like that and I almost got one.....It would be great if you told after how many seconds did the lightning actually strike after you opened the shutter. Again..AwweSome!!!

Extremely good shot - glad it didn't hit the umbrella!
I wish I had taken it, but my only lightning shot was grey with a greeny lightning flash, and not a patch on this one.

If you keep this up, the sky's the limit - (sorry about that)

Very well deserved

Adrian

What a great photo. I have been trying to get lightening for years. We never seem to get any decent storms where I live. Just a few rumbles of thunder in the next valley !

"What should I do if I'm caught out in the open during a thunderstorm and no shelter is nearby? There are NO SAFE PLACES outdoors during a lightning storm. To minimize your chance of being struck, crouch down on the balls of your feet (a position known as "The Lightning Crouch") and cover your ears."
I've also heard car tyres are good insulation...I take it you were standing on top of one ?
What a fantastic capture! Almostworth getting fried for,you nutter.
11 and favourite.

Love the transition of red to purple of the sky. Very powerful image with the lightning, you can even see the smoldering air from the initial strikes.
Cool photograph!

Spur of the moment capture, good one! The red/blue gradient comes over very well and amplifies the electricity in the image. The only point I would have changed would be using the transform tool in "skew" to straighten up the building on the right side as it is leaning in a bit. Hope you do well with this.
