Challenge: Rhythm II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Location: Langford Lake fishing dock

Aperture: 8

Date Uploaded: May 2, 2006

Hanging around the fishing dock and experimenting...
Very little done to it; levels, sharpen, resize, unsharp mask, save for web... I think that's it.
I may get thumped for focussing on the second guide but I experimented with focus on each, as well as different DOF's and liked this one best, myself.

Post-challenge edit: (Wow, I can DO this now! No more having to leaving myself a "comment" :) )
O....M.....G..... THANKS EVERYONE!!! :D

I had a different shot all planned, didn't take this with any thought of challenge in mind, was just mucking about and decided this subject would be a good chance for a lesson in dof, focus and composition. But when I saw it I decided it would work, and gave up on my plan for Cliches. Can you tell I'm glad?? :)

Oh, what a gorgeous shot! All of it - the curve from one side to the other, the DOF, the use of the rule of thirds, the high contrast ...

That does it. Between this and the others of yours I've just been commenting on, you're now one of my favorite photogs.

After all, us S2 ISers have to stick together. :)

This was the first shot I saw when I visited the site.

It's still one of my favourites.

I love the rhythm and the depth.

I find it interesting when common, familar things are put in new contexts or examined from unique points-of-view. This shot does both very nicely.

I am a fan of simple and elegant images. This is both in spades my favorite of the challenge. I think the focus works perfectly because it pulls me into the image. The tone is also working very well here. Outstanding.

I love the composition. I think you could have gone with a longer depth of field, or maybe just set the focus on the first ring. The blur could have been used as a rhythm example as well in this shot.
