My first attempt at motorbike photography ...

Shot on day 1 of the British Superbike meeting at Oulton Park, at which Cal Crutchlow set a new lap record of 1:38.961 in Free Practice for the British Supersport Championship.

Post Challenge:
Cool. The neat thing about this result is that I didn't just pick my best shot of the day, I picked the story and then found a shot to go with it.

Lots of comments on the crop. Here's the wide version ...

Personally I think the tight crop is better suited to a headline image or front page, the wider shot doesn't carry the same impact. And if anybody feels cheated that I cropped so heavily, here's one at full frame to prove I can : ) ...

My first attempt at bikes certainly won't be my last. I had a blast.

Great pic, think the tight crop is definitely higher impact than full frame, nice composition, colours and really good impact. Congrats!!!

I really love this shot. Very intense, great action.

I also really like the uncropped version....seems to give a better feel for the speed.

Congrats !

Congrats on a great capture. Much as I like the tight crop though, I have to say I find the wider shot even better as the motion panning is far more pronounced and gives a greater impression of speed. Well done.

I guess I ought to qualify the "first attempt" statement with "after 4 or 5 years practice shooting cars" for those that don't know.

very well done...would have preferred a more compelling title, seeing that the title was part of the challenge, but this is one of the best of these kind of shots I have seen...you should be proud od this 9

Very nice! Great clarity and cropped down to give an incredible sense of action. I could see this one in a motorcycle mag or SI.

Great shot, but a magazine reader would prefer to see the whole bike and rider. :) 8

This is cropped a little too close. It would be better if entire bike was in the shot.

wow, excellent photo ... i wish the whole bike and driver were in frame

Normally I don't mind borders but I think you might have been served better if you omitted it for this challenge. As for the photo that's a hell of a shot! I love the motion blur at the top and right. Also, I find it really interesting the number of sponsorships depicted in this photo.

Was the crop your choice? would have preferred to see the whole bike with maybe a bit more to the right

Excellent capture. The only thing that could be possiblly asked for is if the bike wasn't cut off. Very good colors, excellent motion. 10

Excellent shot! It's perhaps a little tightly cropped for my taste, but still a supurb shot.

Nice, sharp photo, good colors. I personally think I would like the see the entire bike within the frame, although that may just be a personal thing, since the close crop seems to work well here.

I could fill pages with everything I like about this shot. crisp and a great capture. Bikes a little dark. (maybe a midtone adjustment would've changed this but thats my personal taste)Crop's a little tight (would've liked to see the whole bike). Still a great photo!
