It doesn't get any better than this -- a beautiful, extremely clean shot! *10* -balynch

Love the lines and the lighting on this one. The tint is a good choice -- makes me think of expressions like the golden age. The focus is defintely on the wheels and the driving arm, without totally separating it from the rest of the train. Nice and sharp. If I had to pick a flaw, it would be those little white specs in the LL. *grin* I'm just teasing.

you've managed to capture a mythic quality with your lighting, angle and perspective. the sepia adds in this case. great dof.
07/21/2002 06:26:00 PM
Someday when I grow up I want to pull the levers and be the driver of a train.

I like the coloring you used on this. "Classic" compositional lines...

Very cool. I love the coloring and the framing - it's so sharp! I love it. Will the real JSetzler please stand up? If I'm wrong I'll stop guessing, but I think I got it this time :)) great job. 10 cthenk

Very powerful Picture
07/19/2002 02:46:00 PM
This may not be the most exciting shot this week, but it is very well executed and technically sound. I really like the subtle color.
07/19/2002 02:19:00 PM
Lovely picture.
07/19/2002 08:06:00 AM
I really like this... the lighting is good, and the narrow color range makes it easy on the eyes
07/19/2002 05:48:00 AM
interesting lighting

10. perfect composition, framing, lighting.
07/18/2002 02:49:00 PM
I just love trains. Fine detail and contrast. I would have framed it more to the right to include more of the object in the top right corner. It would have helped balance the large black area in the top left.

Really nice black and white. It's a bit dark in the upper left corner, but all in all, a very nice shot. 9 Swash

Very nice, very authentic looking....love the sepia look..
07/17/2002 10:17:00 AM
I like the angle and the sepia tone. The contrast is nice and it's kind of abstract. 8 - KDJohnson
07/17/2002 08:42:00 AM
Very nice. I like what you did with the color. Very sharp.
07/17/2002 07:46:00 AM
nice B&W photo
07/17/2002 02:19:00 AM
Perfect the DOF and lighting is supurb.
07/16/2002 11:41:00 PM
I am not sure I like the tint, and the exposure seems a little dark, with too much highlight on the wheels, but good composition and idea - 7 Zeiss
07/16/2002 10:05:00 PM
I could see this on the cover of an engineering mag. Very nice manly photo and perfect subject for b&w. 9 Lisa

Great colour, great composition.
Just did a recheck of my High flyers, looking for my 10 vote.
Well done M8. You get my 10 for the week. Great photo. well done "10" Dogman :-)
07/16/2002 09:37:00 AM
like the sepia/ brown tint. Good use of light on the metal wheels, a strong 'train' image
07/16/2002 06:45:00 AM
Great light, a worthy a living room wall.
07/16/2002 02:43:00 AM
Great photo. The perspective makes it!
07/16/2002 12:49:00 AM
Don't know much about the rule of 3rds, but I dont think this picture is a prime example....
07/15/2002 11:03:00 PM
very nicely done. great photo.
07/15/2002 07:45:00 PM
I'll be honest, this is a very plainjane photo, but I LOVE steam trains, so I was forced to rate it high ;)
Seriously tho, very technically nice photo, just a little bland subjectwise.
07/15/2002 07:19:00 PM
Nice. I like the metallic color and the repeating patterns of the wheels. Good choice of sepia (?) as it accentuates the metal tones by making them seem coppery or goldish...might be a bit busy at the upper right.
07/15/2002 07:08:00 PM
This is by far my favorite picture from this weeks competition. The perspective gives a real sense of the power, and the color seals the deal. Great job!
07/15/2002 02:54:00 PM
Studying this is a how-to lesson in itself. I enjoy the opportunity to learn from some of the best.
07/15/2002 02:40:00 PM
A wonderfully strong shot
07/15/2002 02:12:00 PM
Once I was able to stop saying OMG and ahhhhhhhhh ooooh my I was able to vote. The details in this are SUPERB !!!! The crop couldn't be better ! = 10
07/15/2002 01:50:00 PM
Very clear and sharp. Good job. MJ 8
07/15/2002 01:07:00 PM
I'm not a train fan but I know a good photo when I see one. Nice tones, good composition. Kee
07/15/2002 11:19:00 AM
Impressively large depth of field for a close up shot.
07/15/2002 11:05:00 AM
Ooo! Nice clean shot, though I feel I am missing some detail in the deep shadows. Duotone works well with this antique subject, one of my top picks.
07/15/2002 01:56:00 AM
Good effort, very good shot!
07/15/2002 01:43:00 AM
Very dramatic photo. Good control of light.
07/15/2002 12:57:00 AM
Nice and crisp.... The duotone is great for this shot...
