Had no clue what I was going to enter into this challenge. So I dipped a bunch of q-tips in food coloring and placed them in that green brick stuff that you arrange flowers in. Took it outside and held it up to the sky and took the shot. Have no clue how this will go over - probably like a brick. But I like the colors none the less. Maybe some out there will get more of a feeling of rythm than I did - lol.

Cropped, levels, saturation, unsharpen mask, border, save for web, sharpened again and played with saturation again.

Post challenge -
Wow!!! Thanks everyone. To have ribboned is a dream I have had for all of two and a half months - lol. But this is way more awesome than I expected. And being so close to two great shots is all the more humbling. I didn't expect this to do well at all and I am still stunned. Yes the border stunk and I spelled rhythm wrong. But it was fun putting this together. I have an outtake in my portfolio of the set up my 3.5 yr old son made with the extra q-tips. Thanks again everyone.

I like so many things about this shot - the colors, the arrangement, the lighting.

I also really appreciate that you took against a real sky, not a computer monitor.

hello again,

i think you already know this one is awesome. let me break it down for you.

the sky is great. maybe a bit more puffy clouds. the colors are amazing. the focus is spot on. and the lighting is excellent (with a bit of shadow for depth).

the idea is incredible. well done and congratulations on the ribbon. very well deserved.

I'll bet that took some setting up and it was well worth it. I particularly like the way that the stems create a pattern all of their own. A lovely, colourful shot with, as the challenge says, a great rhythm.

Congrats on the ribbon. This is one of those shots where you think "damn, I need those ideas let alone the ability to execute them well"
I didn't even notice the title was misspelt til you pointed it out, and the border doesn't really bother me.

I love how you've captured every texture in the 'q-tips' (pfft, americans :P) and got that sense of colour and movement.

The only things I'd hazard to suggest for improvement would be
1- grain in the sky. A perfect sky would have made this even more awesome. 2- A teensy bit of a lower crop at the bottom, just so that the purple drips don't touch the frame (yeah i'm fussy, but its hard to critique a ribboner lol)

From the Critique Club :

Congrats for your first ribbon ! A blue one , that's great !

First things that came to my mind when I saw your photo were : original , very creative. That's something I value because the elements you used are easy to find ; the way you have used them , your idea , was very good.
All is in focus , it's colorful , it's pleasant to see.

To improve it ? well , hard to say , maybe less noise in the sky (surely due to the unsharp mask and sharpening).

Enjoy it , Tim !

(Please feel free to email me for anything related with this critique)
