This is a very, very appealing photo - I suspect it is so appealing because of the composition. tonal range is very appealing to me, but Bear is certainly the expert there, so I'd listen to him there :) |

I agree about the shadows. You have more detail in there that could be brought out (although maybe not without breaking the rules for a challenge on here) and really add some pop to this. As Bear said, it's a very strong image and I think has good impact to the viewer. I would probably increase the contrast a bit as well as bring out the shadows.

This is a hard one for me to call. It's a very powerful composition, but I feel that the the rendering of the tonal values is not all it could be; I feel as if there's a sense of luminosity that's not quite breaking through. If I were working on it, I's be double-contrast-masking the darker zones, first with screen mode and then a second pass with soft light or hard light mode. This will bring contrast into the darker zones without blocking up the darkest parts so badly. |
